Bread Machine Honey-Whole Wheat Bread

We use our bread maker to create a really fantastic soft bread. No preservatives, excellent for children, and oven-preparable.

Ingredients

  1. 1 ½ cups warm water
  2. 2 tablespoons butter
  3. ¼ cup raw honey
  4. 3 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  5. ¼ cup flaxseed meal
  6. ¼ cup vital wheat gluten
  7. 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  8. 1 ½ tablespoons dry milk powder
  9. 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. Place warm water, butter, honey, whole wheat flour, flaxseed meal, vital wheat gluten, salt, dry milk, and yeast in a bread machine in the order listed. Run a basic wheat bread cycle, but adjust the cook timer to cut baking time down by 25 to 30 minutes. I time the bread and take it out when I see that it is not yet brown. If you like a crusty bread you may let it cook the entire time.
  2. Remove loaf from the machine after the cycle is done.
  3. Take bread out to cool. The “keep warm” function keeps your bread warm, but also continues to cook it! Set on counter. While still slightly warm, I bag my bread to keep it soft.

This is the best bread machine bread I have made- so soft and moist inside with a slight crisp on the outside. I followed the recipe except substituted the flaxseed meal with wheat germ (1:1) since that is what I had on hand. It is a winner! Will definitely make it again.

My family just love this bread! Made only a couple of changes. I let the yeast foam for 5-10 mins in warm water with 1 tbsp flour and a tsp of sugar. Then I pour yeast water in the bread machine pan first and then add the remaining ingredients (mixed well in a separate bowl). Then run the machine program. SK
