I make these with Grand Marnie liqueur instead of bourbon for an orange chocolate flavor. I also use pecans instead of walnuts. This recipe is so easy to make and stores well if you have any leftovers.
I make these in abundance every year. I have had them left over in the fridge for the better part of a year in an air tight container. They age VERY well! I think they were actually better after several months of course I use a bit more bourbon. Also I roll them in granulated fine sugar rather than powdered.
I’ve made these with orange juice for the youngsters.
I save all the scraps from Christmas roll cookies and use them in place of the vanilla wafers – including the gingerbread. It makes a more complex flavor that balances the bourbon. I guess my family are boozers because I add more bourbon and balance it with melted chocolate to make it easier to form the balls. They always scarf them up and I’ve been making them for years.
Very easy to make. I used cooking spray on my hands to keep the mixture from sticking. Worked perfectly and helped form smooth balls as well. Will use this recipe over the ones where you dip in chocolate just for the ease in making. But both kinds are delicious.
Super easy to make but everyone hated them. Said there was way too much bourbon which made them inedible.
I followed the recipe exactly and the balls wouldn’t hold together. I had a hard time forming them into a ball. Maybe I could use them as a crumble to top sweet potatoes…
If you wish you could like bourbon, this recipe makes it easy. Boozy, but very flavorful. All the bourbon taste, without the burn. We are adding this to our list of holiday traditions!
Been making this recipe exactly for a couple years and they are always a big hit. Makes great Christmas gifts!
Almost exactly like my mom’s recipe! She always used brandy instead of bourbon. So good!
