The blueberry sauce is the bomb! I used cubed French bread. The French toast itself would not be very sweet (I mean, it is just plain bread) so I opted to sprinkle cinnamon and white sugar over the bread before adding the egg mix. Approx 2T of cinnamon and 1/4 cup of sugar. This extra sweetness was just enough for our tastes. The blueberry sauce really elevates the flavor. I was short on time so I only let it sit for approx 1 hour and it was perfect. Only used 7 eggs and 1/2 cup of liquid egg whites because this was all I had on hand. Seems to me that the 12 eggs that are called for, would be too much.
Loved this recipe. I used 12 slices of Sara Lee Artesano Brioche bread and removed the crusts. Instead of 1 cup blueberries, I used 1 1/2 cups. The french toast topped with the blueberry sauce was so delicious!
its was great
It was delicious! I will make it again! Many compliments in it! May try it with blackberries, cherries or even apples!
Absolutely loved this recipe! My husband devoured this and it hit the spot if you have a sweet tooth like I do. I poured the sauce over the bake and baked an extra 20mins or so til it was hot and bubbly. I also bought whipped cream for a extra fun topping but completely forgot about it because the bake looked so delicious. So scrupulously addictive. Will definitely be making again. Maybe with strawberries or cherries the next time. We will see.
This is the best French Toast recipe ever. We doubled the recipe for the syrup. It is always a big hit when we serve it to family and friends.
Delicious, I’ve made it twice now, easy to make
This dish turned out great! I used bakery fresh Artesano bread and removed the crust. I cut that into cubes. I cut back on the eggs and just used 10. I mixed some cinnamon in the batter which was perfection! I coated my pan in butter before adding the bread and mix. The sauce made it extra good and my husband said it was even better than his moms! Which is where I got the original recipe. All smiles.
Exceptional! I took the cream cheese and blended it with 1/2 cup sugar and 1 egg to make it like a cheese cake filling. Delicious!!
Great recipe! I used more blueberries than the recipe called for and only 1 1/2 cream cheese – sprinkled cinnamon on as well before storing overnight. Delicious!
Easy to make and a huge hit with Christmas guests
My family loved this! The next time I make it however I will use half as much of the cream cheese.
Really liked it. Not too sweet which is what we enjoyed. Sauce was easy and good. Definitely a keeper.
It was great! However, I reduced the eggs to 8, reduced the cream cheese to 4 oz, and about 3/4 lb bread because I didn’t want to make 12 servings. Sprinkled cinnamon sugar over top and baked 30 with foil on, and only 15 minutes without.
Make toast only, used regular syrup. Still delish!
Great French toast. Ate to much of it.
Sooo good! Great to make the night before a big day like Christmas morning, hosting a brunch etc. I didn’t use as much cream cheese and added lots of cinnamon as the previous poster suggested. Great recipe!
This is our favorite Christmas morning breakfast!
I made it without the blueberry sauce for the top and it was still delicious. Although I’m sure it would have been great with the sauce too. I would be more likely to call it a bread pudding than “french toast” though. Keeping this one.
This is now a family tradition in our house every year at Christmas! I make it the day before and pop it in the oven after we open presents. I make the sauce with just a tiny bit of lemon juice and a TINY little squirt of vanilla flavoring to help the overall sweetness. I use Challah bread, which is amazing! The only recommendation I have is to double the glaze sauce as people use quite a bit on their serving since it is SO good!!
I have used this recipe for a few years and it turns out amazing every time.
