You won’t find a more delicious or straightforward dish than this blue ribbon beef chili. I suggest serving it with cornmeal or crackers and thinly sliced jalapeo peppers.

I’ve been using this recipe for years! It is the best chili ever! I’ve added some things and changed it a little…. I use 2 cans of fire roasted tomatoes in place of the tomato sauce. I add red sweet peppers along with green onions. I throw in a can of diced tomatoes with green chili’s. I also add black beans. It’s always a hit! Soo delicious!
Been making this for years and everyone loves it! I add 2 cans of diced tomatoes and 8 oz tomato sauce.
I cut this recipe in half for the 3 of us, using only the dark red kidney beans. They were no salt added- didn’t need extra salt! The only other change was I used Pace mild picante sauce for my no/ heat husband. I did add jalapeños to mine and we all enjoyed the shredded cheese on top. I served it with a tossed green salad, cantaloupe, and cornbread- it was a delicious, easy meal!
5 star yes ma’am. I think this is a great chili recipe. It is so EASY and I have won twice at our towns Chili cook off. Kids especially love it as their first intro to Chili. I use Herdez salsa medium or hot.
I loved this recipe. Every time I make chili, I use it. Always gets compliments. Thank you for sharing.
We all loved it!
I’ve cooked chili for 50 years and it was time for a change. My daughter first served this chili recipe and we all loved it. It immediately replaced my old recipe. My daughter added a chopped sweet potato. Yum! be careful to cut it into small pieces or par cook it before adding to the chili so that it is soft. It’s a delicious, healthy addition.
I think I break several chili rules by doing this, but I use brown beans and tomato sauce instead of the kidney beans. My kids gobble this recipe up with the brown beans but don’t like kidney beans. I also add one can of diced tomatoes with chili seasoning to the recipe in addition to the salsa and tomato sauce. I do this because I normally double or triple the recipe and it saves me a bit on salsa.
This chili recipe is too simple to be this delicious. I hardly make chili for that reason, too complicated. Disclaimer: I used what I had on hand, which was ground pork, not quite 2 lbs so I added some chickpeas. Like others, I added more liquid to make it more saucey – I made my tomato sauce from double concentrated tomato paste and water, 4 cups. I think the key is to use a chili seasoning mix and salsa to your personal taste (my salsa was a fire-roasted one) Thanks for the recipe!
This recipe has made me a hero! Everyone loves it.
Loved this simple and tasty chili recipe! The only changes I made was that I used a 16oz. jar of salsa (by mistake) instead of an 8oz. one and I added 1 can of petite diced tomatoes. Other than that, I kept the recipe as is. I did cook cook the ground beef with the onion then drained the extra fat and added the seasoning and then I put everything in a crockpot and let it cook on low for several hours. So easy and delicious! Make sure you use a chili mix and not just chili powder. I used a chili mix recipe from this site because I had all the ingredients on hand.
This is my go to chilli. You won’t be disappointed you tried it. So easy!
This came out amazing! It never crossed my mind to add salsa to chili. I loved the simplicity of the recipe. The family loved flavor. We will definitely be making this again. My only change to the recipe was using 15 oz can of diced tomatoes for chili and an 8 oz can of Roasted garlic tomato sauce in place of using just tomato sauce.
I was skeptical, but this was DELICIOUS! It will be my go to chili recipe from now on. I used Pace Hot Picante and the Williams seasoning as recommended. I added about 2 cups of beef broth to thin it out a bit (personal preference). So good and so easy!
Easy to make, every time I make it people rave about it
Easy, not a lot of ingredients and is delicious!
I’ve been making this recipe for a VERY long time. As it is written, it is wonderful! The 5 stars is for the actual recipe submitted. As I’ve used it, I can say that there are a couple tricks I’ve learned that make it even better (hard to believe that’s possible, I know!). If you brown the meat/onion and mix in the seasonings, and let it all sit for about 10 minutes, it really sets the flavor in the meat. If you want to make it vegetarian, just sauté your onions in a little water/oil, then add a can of white beans and continue on as normal. I’ve always drained my beans. It wasn’t until I watched the video that I realized you weren’t supposed to, it just depends on how thick you want your chili. I use the “Homemade Chili Seasoning Mix” (omit flour). The seasoning mix is great, and the best part is you always know exactly what is going into you chili! This is definitely the best chili ever. Rarely do I have a meal that all 3 kids eat without complaints. It’s also fun to know that when friends of my kids find out “I’m making chili,” they find a way to stay for dinner.
Look no further – this is the best chili recipe ever. Easy, quick and delicious!
I don’t make chili any other way now! Love this recipe!!
The best chili ever! I have made this dozens of times and everyone loves it and wants the recipe!
This is the best chili I’ve made that is plant based. I used plant breakfast sausage instead of ground beef and I love it! Up until now I’d not found one I cared for without real meat in it. I’ll definitely be making this again! I did not follow this recipe as it is here – I found it in their magazine. That recipe calls for 1 cup chopped onion, a 15-oz. jar of salsa, and 2 15-oz. cans of tomato sauce.
