SUMMER PERFECTION! This is my new favorite cocktail! It’s as delicious as it is beautiful. Several reviewers have mentioned sweetness. I used a Magic Bullet so I could make each guest’s drink to their taste. Generally, this was what I used for one serving: ten frozen cherries, three ice cubes, three mint leaves, one shot (or 1.5) of rum, a splash of fresh lime juice, a drizzle of lime syrup, and a bit of tonic on top (the drink was too thick without the tonic). Overwhelmingly positive response! This one is a KEEPER! Enjoy!
I am a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. I rarely drink it so when I do, I want it to be tasty. After reading ALL the reviews (twice, here’s what I did… I made the simple syrup with 1 c. water : 1 c. sugar : zest of 3 limes. Simmered it for 5 min, and strained as directed. The first batch of mojitos was made with 1 c. simple syrup and 1 c. rum. I put the cherries, mint, everything BUT the ice into the blender first. Then added the ice. Delicious! Still a bit too sweet and couldn’t taste the rum. The second batch was the winner for us. I only used 3/4 c. of the syrup and upped the rum to 1&1/4 c. Still, it’s light on the alcohol, I promise. And the sweetness is just right now. I disagree with needing to strain the mix first. We didn’t have any pieces of mint leaves floating around. Maybe it depends on your blender but mine’s ~30 yrs old – frankly, I was surprised it handled this as well as it did! Hope this helps. Enjoy this beautiful, tasty drink!
I made the recipe for Blended Cherry Mojitos yesterday evening to serve to my guests who were coming for dinner. The mojitos were definitely a big hit and I will add this mojito recipe to my recipe collection. Reading through the directions and reviews, I became a little concerned about the mint leaf flakes floating in the drink so instead of adding the mint leaves to the cherries in the blender, I added the mint leaves along with the lime zest to the simple syrup then boiled the syrup for 5 minutes. I strained the liquid as directed. The result was a delicious drink with the flavor of mint without the green flecks floating in it.
My mom came into town, so I made these tonight! I was looking to make a traditional mojito. Then, I found this and I conveniently had a bag of frozen cherries in my freezer! I halved the recipe for my mom and myself, except for the simple syrup I used 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup of sugar and used 1/2 cup of the mixture in the recipe. Still used 3 limes because we like the tang. It was perfectly sweet, tangy, and minty. I didn’t have a problem with the mint leaves floating around, and my blender is my mom’s old one, older than I am LOL! I think the key is to blend blend blend and then blend some more! Didn’t have citrus flavored rum, used dark rum instead. Still delish! I think I may have to make these tomorrow morning rather than mimosas! Not only is it tasty but also beautiful!
Excellent frozen drink. I made without alcohol because I was pregnant and it was terrific and fresh. I did cut the sugar water dramatically and added more ice and soda water. A definite must-have drink for the summer!
I cut the sugar also to 1cup and it was still a little too sweet. I also added more rum. I liked the “slushy” consistency, great summer drink. Very rich deep red color.
Delicious and Refreshing! The color is amazing!
I have made this recipe several times, and have made a few little changes. I like it a little less sweet, so I cut down on the simple syrup by half, and add extra rum. I like to mix this with champagne, and it is absolutely delicious!!!!
This is a great cocktail recipe. Maybe just a little more rum :
First of all, it all has to be strained before pouring it into glasses; otherwise, it tastes like a gritty salad. It also is awfully sweet. Still there is a rather nice flavor.
