Beer Shandies

Have a beer, a drink, some juice or lemonade, and some fruit on hand? Then you have the ingredients for an extremely tasty shandy or a very energizing radler. These simple beer drinks, which are popular in the summer due to their lightness and low alcohol level, also go well with fall flavors. Here are some pairings we like.

Ingredients

  1. ¾ cup beer
  2. ¾ cup lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage
  3. 1 slice lemon

Instructions

  1. Pour beer and lemon-lime beverage into a pint glass, then garnish with lemon slice.
  2. Variation 1: Peary Good Shandy. A nutty/malty/smooth brown ale (such as Newcastle Brown Ale) + sparkling pear juice + a lemon twist + a pear slice.
  3. Variation 2: Smokin’ Cherry Radler. A chocolaty smoked porter (such as Bell’s IV: To a Locomotive in Winter) + black cherry soda or cherry juice + a lime wedge.
  4. Variation 3: Pumpkintop Shandy. A pumpkin ale (such as Southern Tier’s Pumpking Imperial) + ginger beer + a squeeze of orange juice + an orange slice.
