Reviews
I used Pappardelle instead on standard egg noodles, very good.
This is pretty easy, relatively quick, and tasty. I used ground turkey and fresh spinach, but otherwise followed the recipe. Might benefit from a little more herbs and spices, but it was fine as is. The family says to keep this recipe handy.
I followed some of the suggestions & increased the amount of seasonings. A quick & easy meal.
This was an easy and good recipe. It would be very easy to modify to your family’s taste. I made it according to this recipe and have had a request to repeat it! It also freezes and reheats well. Nice.
Drained everything as specified however I think the biggest issue for a lot of people is the lack of flavour, coking the Onion and garlic into the beef does help. However if you had extra Oregano, some dried basil, a small amount of Thyme, and some Chili Powder and a tbs of Sugar adds a lot more to it. But the best way is instead of using the canned sauce, find one that is already seasoned or go for the 4 cheese bottle sauce, kicks the flavour up and makes it irresistible for the Children.
I used fresh spinach – food processed it with the onion and garlic (double the garlic). the result was a nice filling to go between the beef/noodle layers. My picky eater thought it was really good!
Vary good dish and makes for something different to do with ground beef .
I would make it again, but add more noodles. I added 4 cups, but it needed more. I gave it five stars because the flavor was good and it was easy. I mixed the cottage cheese , spinach, onions and sauce early and put it together at dinner time.
This was great. I used fresh spinach and cooked it down before adding it. I also used fresh oregano. I went back for seconds. It’s surprisingly addictive.
This recipe was marginal, in my opinion. It really needs more flavor and liquid. I added spaghetti sauce to the leftovers to make it better, but more spices, like thyme and oregano, would add much-needed flavor.
I made this as listed. Tasted the tomato/beef mixture and thought it was very bland. Added some extra oregano, a tsp of garlic powder and extra salt. Assembled and baked it. It was okay. Nothing to rave about. Not sure if I will make again.
Thank your mother for making you this, so you could have shared this great quick-type lazagna with us! I added a little more noodles to it for us, that was the only difference. This is a very tasty, satisfying comfort food for any day of the week. Love it!
This was decent, easy and quick. A couple things: she mentions garlic but doesn’t say where. I put it in with the ground beef the last minute or so of browning. I simmered the beef in the sauce for about 10 minutes as the noodles cooked. Worked out fine. I suppose you could substitute jarred spaghetti sauce for the home-made sauce, if you wish. Be sure to CHOP the thawed spinach, it’s not usually chopped well.
I thought was pretty good, but my ex LOVED it.
It’s a very very versatile recipe!! We are not picky eaters but my husband is a very picky “pasta person” he wants stuff to taste Italian usually, not just covered in cheese or pasta sauce and this fit the bill and was delish!! A wonderful, quick, not as rich alternative to lasagna. I didn’t have egg noodles,I had penne pasta,so I used that and a combo of something similar to farlafelle(sp?).I completely missed the “garlic”,altho it would’ve made a nice addition. Didn’t have cottage cheese,so I used cream cheese. Used half ground sausage and half ground beef. Used half a jar of Ragu pasta sauce and didn’t have mozzarella for the top so I used pepper jack cheese. I sauteed the onions in a bit of butter as someone else suggested. Served with garlic bread and steamed zucchini. It was wonderful! We are adding it to our favorites. Oh and it’s wonderful the second day as well!
We enjoyed this recipe. I used jarred pasta sauce, sausage and beef, and used fresh spinach. I also used gluten-free pasta and it worked wonderfully. My husband raved about it.
It’s like lazy man’s lasagna. Super good. The only thing i did different was I used fresh spinach, and heated fora bit. Next time I would chop it first, but great dish!
I live in a house with very picky children and an adult who won’t eat many veggies. This was a great recipe to sneak in the spinach and they said they could’t taste it. I have made this a few times and my family LOVES this dish. I am always stoked when they tell me to make something again. This one is for sure a crowd pleaser!
My husband and I liked it. I used one can of tomato paste and a cup of spaghetti sauce, since thats all I had. I sauted the onion and garlic with the meat and then let it simmer with the water and sauce mixture. It turned out great! Totally tastes like lasagna, but takes less effort!
Yum!!! I used elbow macaroni and I used a can of crushed tomatoes instead of the sauce! It was sooooo good!
Really nice blend of flavors. I used part ground chuck and part Italian sausage, and sauteed the onions and garlic with the meat. Also used spaghetti sauce, and ricotta for the cottage cheese.
