I fry eggs in a similar manner.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 30 mins
Servings: 24
Yield: 2 dozen

Ingredients

  1. 1 (18.25 ounce) package chocolate cake mix
  2. 1 (16 ounce) container prepared chocolate frosting
  3. 1 (11.5 ounce) package fudge stripe cookies
  4. 1 (6 ounce) bag milk chocolate candy kisses, unwrapped
  5. 1 tablespoon red gel icing

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cake mix according to package directions for cupcakes. Cool. Frost cupcakes with chocolate frosting.
  2. Break the cookies in half, and press two halves into the top of each cupcake for wings, stripes facing the frosting. Place a chocolate kiss in front of the cookies with the point facing forward for the body. Make two beady little eyes with the red gel icing towards the point of the kiss. Let the fun begin!

I had so much fun making these Batty cakes! I used dark chocolate cake mix (and dark chocolate kisses too) and creamy white icing. My only problem was the red gel did not want to stick so I stuck it in the freezer for awhile. Everyone enjoyed them and was impressed.

They actually looked more like elephants to me than bats, because I saw in the picture a tiny trumpet. On the texture, they looked good and perfect, and on the flavor was an excellent job. For a little bit more flavor I added 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Great job. (They looked like elephants.)

I used homemade vanilla icing and tinted it yellow to look like the moon behind the little bats and I used red food gel for the eyes. Really cute!

I love how these turned out! Assembly was easy. I found that it is best to cut the cookies with a serrated knife. I will certainly make these again.
