Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients

  1. 8 slices bacon, chopped
  2. 1 medium onion, chopped
  3. 3/4 cup ketchup
  4. 3/4 cup tomato puree
  5. 1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
  6. 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  7. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  8. Salt and pepper to taste
  9. 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  10. 2 twenty-eight ounce cans red beans, drained and rinsed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. Put a heavy-bottomed pot (with a lid) over medium-high heat. Add the bacon and cook, stirring often, until the fat renders and bacon begins to crisp, about 6-8 minutes. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes more. Stir in the ketchup, tomato puree, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, and cayenne and mix well. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Stir in the beans until well coated, cover, and bake in the oven for 1 hour. Remove the lid and continue baking until sauce thickens and the beans begin to brown, about 15 minutes more. Remove from the oven and allow to cool at least 15 minutes before serving.
  3. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Man oh Man it was devoured! The ingredients surprised me but sure made sense to the eating audience. Will only use your guidance from here forward. As good as my father’s baked beans and he died with the Secret within him. May 2024 2nd request that I make it again, June 2024.

Delicious and smoky, this will be my go-to recipe from now on. I used Goya small red beans. If your bacon gives off a lot of fat when rendered, remove some of the fat. So good!

I have made this recipe a couple of times now, and it has been a complete hit both times. Definitely an easy and delicious recipe.

These beans hit all of the right notes- sweet, smoky, savory and with a touch of heat. My new go to for baked beans!

Fantastic! I found this recipe several years ago and everyone loves them. I am always asked to bring to cookouts or any potluck. I use 2 28 oz cans of Bush’s Country Style baked beans. We love the kick from the cayenne.

Easy, fast and delicious!

My go to dish for potlucks.

This has become my #1 baked bean recipe.  It beat out the one using coke.

My favorite. Have fixed several times. Enjoy how vinegar cuts some of the sweet taste.

Brought these to a friend’s BBQ and everyone complimented them. Super easy and flavorful! I ran out of time to bake them in the oven, so i threw them in the instant pot for 20 min and let the pressure naturally release for another 15. Came out great!

This is a great, easy recipe. Allow time to prep, about 20 min. I used dark red kidney beans and plus or minus a few ounces depending on canned amounts.
Very tasty!
