Ingredients
- 4 large baking apples, such as Honeycrisp
- 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Wash and core apples, leaving enough of the core at the base of the apple to contain the filling.
- Combine the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and chopped pecans in a small bowl. Roll log shapes of the mixture and press enough into each apple to fill the core.
- Fill a 2-quart baking dish with about 3/4 cup water, or enough to cover the bottom. Place the apples upright in the dish. Bake until the apples are soft and the filling is browned, 1 hour.

Great Flavor, Easy to make recipes are nice. Simple ingredients. This dessert is delicious. We served it with a little vanilla ice cream.
Was trying to find my Great-Grandma Smith’s Baked Apples recipe in one of our family cookbooks, and just couldn’t find it. It was a simple and delicious one, low in sugar compared to the usual ones, and with two of us with diabetes, that matters! Thankful for this yummy version which is the closest I’ve found to our family version, but don’t tell g-ma that this one tastes better!
Made as suggested (was a bit heavy-handed with the cinnamon, as I am), and mixed water and apple cider for the liquid. Fantastic! A huge hit with the kids, and those of us who need to bolus/take insulin for our carbs had a very easy time covering for this tasty dessert. Thanks, Tricia!

The recipe itself was very easy to follow. I like that. It only used a few ingredients, and now it’s baking can’t wait to eat it. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
is it good?
We loved these apples. My husband loved them with ice cream super easy
I have extra filling. What can I make with it?
omg. i think thier great
Absolutely awesome! I ate two.
Excellent! The pecans are a nice addition! Yum
A great, basic baked apple recipe! To add to the recipe, I use 1/2 c. water and 1/4 c. brandy (or rum or bourbon) for the baking liquid. When serving, pour a little heavy cream over the apples. (I like this better than ice cream, which makes it too sweet and detracts from the flavor of the apples and filling.)
