Ingredients

  1. 1 (12 ounce) package uncooked tri-color rotini pasta
  2. 10 slices bacon
  3. 1 cup mayonnaise
  4. 3 tablespoons dry ranch salad dressing mix
  5. ½ teaspoon garlic pepper
  6. ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  7. ½ cup milk, or as needed
  8. 1 large tomato, chopped
  9. 1 (4.25 ounce) can sliced black olives
  10. 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Gather ingredients.

  3. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil; cook rotini at a boil until tender yet firm to the bite, about 8 minutes; drain.

  5. Place bacon in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook until evenly brown. Drain and chop.

  7. Mix mayonnaise, ranch dressing mix, garlic pepper, and garlic powder together in a large bowl. Stir in milk until smooth.

  9. Place rotini, bacon, tomato, black olives, and cheese in a bowl and toss to coat with dressing.

  11. Cover and chill at least 1 hour in the refrigerator. Toss with additional milk if the salad seems a little dry.

This dressing is awesome ! I had to omit the tomatoes because granddaughter prefers red bell pepers. This dressing can be used on any type of salad.

Doubled and then used Fiesta Ranch dry seasoning packet. This had a lot of pasta salad “competition” at a picnic I went to over the weekend. Was it good? Yes! Was it mind-blowing wow? IMHO, the tasteless sliced black California olives are a waste of time, effort, and money. Greek Kalamata olives are readily available and an order of magnitude better. You’ll see!

Excellent and smooth. I replaced the milk with buttermilk and added a bit more than 1/4 c and I added more bacon. This is a salad that’s excellent with any main course and served up cold. Family loved it and I will be making this as a regular Thank you!

Great recipe. I have to admit I typically buy the mix. Basically just boil the pasta noodles add the packet of seasoning. But this is much better. More time intensive but it is much better than the package stuff. Definitely try it.

This is a great start. I prefer elbow macaroni as it is smaller and you don’t look like you have bad table manners when you eat smaller pasta versus larger pasta shapes. The fresh veggies I add are sliced Roma tomatoes, sliced celery, sliced cucumbers, sliced green onions, sliced radishes and frozen peas and carrots. I don’t add milk to mine. I add more mayonnaise. I also slice up my bacon into crumble size before frying. Make sure to have the bacon thoroughly chilled and then slicing is easier. I am not a black olive fan, so you won’t see me adding them. For a protein, I use either 2 small cans of tuna, or half of a package of flaked imitation crab meat.

I’ve made this several times. My daughters prefer it without tomatoes because they don’t like them and my husband prefers it without olives. I usually just make it as is and tell them to pick out what they don’t like. I always refrigerate and then add a little milk right before serving.

I didn’t add black olives but I did add the small sweet peppers. I always follow a recipe exactly the first time and then change it up the next time as needed.

I didn’t have garlic pepper so I added a 1/4 tsp black pepper and doubled the garlic powder. Came out great!

Thought this was delicious! I did make a few slight changes. Since my cherry tomatoes were not edible any longer- I omitted them. I added a few slices of onion- chopped semi finely. I also used a tish more milk to start out with. I added black pepper and some onion salt as well! Yum!

Not everyone likes tomatoes, so I used a container of grape tomatoes so the juice wasn’t on all of the pasta salad. DO NOT substitute Miracle Whip for the mayo, it is nasty! My quick go to for bacon is the packages of real bacon pieces, don’t get the imitation, they aren’t as good. I make this very often!

Excellent amount of flavor and moisture. My dinner company raved about the dish. I made the pasta and vegetables and sauce separately the night before and blended them together and refrigerated just hours before serving. This helped from the pasta soaking up too much sauce as another writer pointed out as well.

This is similar to the recipe from a deli that I worked at in college, the only differences are using red bell pepper instead of tomato, and addition of green onion. I also use a full pound of pasta and bacon.
