Apple-Spice Tisane

Ingredients

  1. Peels from 8 apples
  2. 3 whole cloves
  3. 2 cinnamon sticks
  4. 1 lemon, zest peeled in large strips, plus lemon juice, as needed
  5. Honey, as needed, optional

Instructions

  1. Add the apple peels, cloves, cinnamon sticks, lemon zest, a drizzle of honey if using and 2 cups water to a medium saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 1 minute. Turn off the heat, cover the saucepan and let the mixture steep for 15 minutes.
  2. Strain the tisane into another small saucepan and heat it back up. Taste, adding some honey and/or lemon juice if desired. Serve hot.

Love it – this is a great way for me to use apple peels after making pie, applesauce, or (in today’s case) apple butter! It’s a nice fall alternative to pumpkin spice-flavored everything this fall 🙂
