Apple Crumble with Halva Topping

  5.0 – 0 reviews  • Apple Dessert Recipes

Fruit crisps or crumbles are deliciously topped with plain sesame halva. Since halva is inherently sweet and fatty, no additional sugar or butter is required. The topping is best served after cooling because it is soft when first baked but becomes pleasantly crispy as it cools. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

  1. 5 cups apple – peeled, cored and sliced
  2. lemon, juiced
  3. 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  4. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  5. ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (Optional)
  6. 6 ounces plain sesame halva, crumbled
  7. ½ cup rolled oats
  8. ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  9. 1 pinch salt
  10. aluminum foil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease an 8-inch or 9-inch baking dish.
  2. Mix together apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl. Evenly spread fruit in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Mix halva, oats, flour, and salt to a crumbly consistency. Sprinkle over the fruit and cover with aluminum foil to prevent top from browning too quickly.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until bubbly and well browned, about 45 minutes. Let cool to allow the topping to harden.
  5. Cook’s Note:
  6. You can use a variety of fresh fruit for this crumble–apple, pear, peach, apricots, or plums work great.
