Even my husband likes a chocolate chip cookie variation. Diane Abed’s cookie recipe provided the inspiration.

It’s baking now. The batter is stiff and almost dry. I’ve added more apples for moisture. We’ll see
These are good, but for us a little to sweet. They are crumbly but still good. I don’t know if less sugar could be used and it still turn out OK.
This batch was a hit! I substituted walnuts for oatmeal. An easy breakfast bar. More in the making!!!
Really delicious and easy. I love that all the ingredients are things I keep on hand. I added a bit of nutmeg: I put nutmeg in any recipe where it’s plausible. I used 1/2 white sugar, 1/2 brown. Next time I might add raisins. This will be a favorite for me!
They were delicious! I didn’t have Granny Smith apples. I used gala apples. They were good, still!
This was quick and easy to put together. However, after I mixed in the nuts, apples and the butterscotch bits I decided to add it seemed like there was way more add ons then there was batter. However, the end results was scrumptious. Next time I might add a bit more apple, skip the butterscotch bits and maybe, just maybe, layer it. Great go to recipe when company is on the way. We had some right out of the oven and then later in the evening. It was better in the evening!
This recipe is so simple, but fantastic! I made a brown butter glaze to top it with. Over the top sweet, but I like sweet, and this is definitely a treat. Thank you submitter!
Quick and easy, this apple bar recipe was delicious!
These are really really good. I made them for my book club using 100% white whole wheat flour (for a group of women I thought would resent anything not made of refined flour) and a few of them ended up politely arguing over who should take the last one.
This was super easy. I grated the apple instead and did half brown sugar and half white. Then did a strudel topping.
It’s too sweet for me. I’ll omit a quarter cup of sugar next time I make it. I used a Gala apple and a quarter made up to a cup and it turned out good. Also I added a cup of walnuts because I love walnuts.

New Favorite!!!
These are just perfect! I followed one reviewer’s mistake and on purpose switched the baking soda for baking powder since we like chewy bars. Also left out the walnuts and added 1/2 rolled oats. They hold together well and are moist and chewy, not cake like, and not too sweet. Kids and adults can’t stop eating these!
Very good recipe and easy to change a bit to make the way you want.
Great bars, I substituted walnuts with almonds. We like the cake like texture.
I made this for dessert for a couples game night with my friends and it was a hit. I only made a few changes, 1/2 cup of sugar and I used pecans and Gala Apple’s. Its also delicious warm with vanilla ice cream. Bake it a little longer to get it crisp or use a cookie sheet instead of pan.
I added pecans instead of walnuts. Very delicious and easy to bake. I will be keeping this in my recipe file to make again and again.
I have tried this recipe several times for different occasions, and people loved it, especially those who aren’t sweet tooth! Adding raisins make the taste and texture better. Using 1/2 cup apple sauce instead of butter works well. I’ve added oats once, but I guess it was too much and it turned to be crumbling. If I try with oats again, I’d add only 1/4 or 1/3 cup. Thank you for sharing such a pretty healthy and super easy recipe!
Didn’t have any Granny Smith apples but did have Braeburn and won’t use them again. Extremely moist almost soggy in fact . Followed the recipe exactly and was disappointed with the results but feel it was the apples that is the problem.
I loved these apple bars. I followed the recipe except I used a heaping cup of finely diced apple and added a bit of vanilla. I also iced with a thin layer of frosting. I know I will make this recipe again and again.
