The newest addition to my assortment of potato side dishes are these German potato dumplings. They are delicious with melted butter drizzled over them and crunchy croutons on top, but they are also tasty with bacon, sautéed onions, and mushroom sauce. Instead of boiling the potatoes, try roasting them for a lovely, dry result if you have the time. I enjoy serving them with red cabbage and pork.

Reviews
I have never made bread before, I decided to try this recipe and I have to say, it was so easy and the bread was amazing! I will never buy from the store again!
First time making this fairly simple bread recipe. Great for beginners. My family loved it. It was absolutely delicious.
I just finished making this bread. It is a keeper. I will be making it again and again. Very easy to make.
Simple greatness! This bread does not last 24 hours with my kids. I have also made it with 2 tablespoons of cinnamon (yes we like cinnamon! And butter!) to make an additional tasty treaty without complications.
Great tasting!
I never understand why people write reviews for recipes, and then proceed to tell you that they didn’t make the recipe at all. So basically they are writing a review for their own recipe that they made up that has nothing to do with the original recipe. This is a review FOR THIS RECIPE, MADE WITH A BREAD MACHINE. This was my first loaf of bread ever made with a brand new bread machine. It came out great! Perfect loaf of bread. I used all of the ingredients listed. If you want success, you need to buy the right flour. Use bread flour and not all purpose flour, nor any of the other flours out there. Get the best quality bread flour you can. Also, make sure to use rapid rise instant yeast for bread machines. I didn’t know that there were so many different kinds of yeast out there. I made the recipe as written. It is important that you follow the instructions for your own bread machine. Mine had me put the wet ingredients in the bottom, then the dry in top. I mixed the dry ingredients in a bowl first to combine them, then put the dry ingredients over the top of the wet. Then my machine said to create a channel in the flour and put the yeast on top. Your machine have a different way of loading the ingredients. I used the 2lb bread setting, then the medium for the top color. I can’t believe it worked! I gave it to a friend who is a bread fanatic and he loved it! It made my house smell like home. I also like that I can control the quality of ingredients. I used organic sugar and oil. It was just so fluffy and was the best bread. I’ve never had better bread. Butter was all I needed for a ticket to Heaven! Enjoy!
I’ve made this bread so many times & THIS time I THOUGHT I messed up…had NO oil! What I DID use was equal amounts of BACON grease! YES, you read correctly…bacon grease. It turned out GREAT! I WISH I could recall how it tasted with the oil but TRUST me when I say, the bacon did NOT have a “bacony” taste to it either.
This is my go to recipe for white bread. I’ve tried other recipes which taste bland compared to this one. I was able to convert the recipe (with the help of an online converter) to increase the loaf size to 2lb. Love it!
This turned out really well. I followed the recipe as written and was very pleased with the result. I think next time I might use a little less sugar though. Otherwise I wouldn’t change anything.
I have used this recipe multiple times and it turns out beautifully every time. Super easy and delicious. I don’t make any adjustments and it turns out perfectly.
My bread machine settings are Basic, Light color, 1-1/2 lb. I never shut off machine for second rising. It fills the pan and cooks throughout and not to dark a crust. Also, 18 Tblsp equals 1 cup plus 2 Tblsps for easier measuring. I check my dough during first stirring to make sure it isn’t too wet or too dry, so I can adjust before baking.
Very good and easy.
This was a lovely, slightly sweet bread.
Fantastic! I was afraid to over knead, but really needed to do more, day to two later my bread was falling apart when cutting slices. EVERYONE loves this bread! It is delicious!
fabulous tasting bread. didn’t have bread flour or any wheat gluten to add to all-purpose flour but still turned out great. has a nice, sturdy density to it, not as “flimsy” as some bread machine recipes i’ve made. looking forward to making it again.
My family loves it, and wished I’d make everyday ans we never buy commercial bread again! (That’s not happening though! LOL!)
I made this as per another reviewer, without the bread machine. I used all purpose flour and increased to 3 1/2 cups, (high altitude). However, I started with only 2 cups, poured another cup onto my work surface, then gradually incorporated that flour as I began to knead. After getting it all in, I had to add another half cup, as the dough was still a little sticky. I kneaded for 10 minutes, rested in a warm, oil-glazed bowl for an hour, punched it down, then turned it out into the bread pan to rise for another 45 minutes. Perfect sandwich bread, slightly sweet, excellent for cutting. Love this recipe.
I never made bread before and this recipe was easy and very delicious.
This is the easiest bread to make ever!!! I did not want to dig out my neglected bread machine so I made it by hand, and it turned out great! I used 3 cups of flour, mixed my sugar, yeast & water, let it sit for 10 minutes, kneaded by hand, let it rise, ounces it down placed in it a greased loaf pan let it rise & baked, turned out perfect!!!!
My new favorite bread recipe, perfect
I missed the 2nd cycle of kneading, so ended up just baking it in my machine the regular way. It still came out perfect. It rose beautifully and the bread was light, fine crumbed, the crust was tender and it had a marvelous, slightly sweet flavor. Perfect for toast or sandwiches. This will definitely be my new “go-to” recipe for regular bread.
