Alysia’s Basic Meat Lasagna

  4.6 – 406 reviews  • Lasagna Recipes

It’s really simple to create this straightforward meat lasagna with provolone, mozzarella, ricotta, and Parmesan.

Prep Time: 45 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr 10 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 55 mins
Servings: 10
Yield: 1 9×13-inch lasagna

Ingredients

  1. 1 tablespoon olive oil
  2. 1 small onion, diced
  3. 4 cloves garlic, minced
  4. 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  5. 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  6. 1 (28 ounce) jar sausage flavored spaghetti sauce
  7. 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  8. 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  9. 1 (8 ounce) package shredded mozzarella cheese
  10. 1 (8 ounce) package shredded provolone cheese
  11. 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
  12. ¼ cup milk
  13. 2 large eggs
  14. ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  15. 9 no-boil lasagna noodles
  16. ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Make the sauce: Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic; cook and stir until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add ground beef and garlic powder; cook and stir until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain and discard grease. Add spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, and oregano; cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Make the lasagna: Mix mozzarella and provolone together in a medium bowl. Mix ricotta, milk, eggs, and oregano together in another bowl.
  4. Ladle sauce (just enough to cover) into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer sauce with three lasagna noodles, more sauce, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella mixture; repeat once more using all of remaining cheese mixtures. Layer with remaining three lasagna noodles and remaining sauce, then sprinkle Parmesan over top.
  5. Cover and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Uncover and continue to bake until cheese is melted and top is golden, about 15 minutes longer.

Our new favorite Lasagna Recipe!

I made this exactly as written, except I used half basil, half oregano where it called for oregano. (Just because I dislike oregano and love basil.) It was great, and exactly what I wanted. My family are fans.

Pretty good. Pic is from the very first time I made it but have made a few other times. I am not much of a cook lol

This is an amazing recipe and I followed it exactly as mentioned. It was my first time making lasagna and my family and I loved it!

Yummy! Everyone liked it and will add this to the dinner rotation! Used 1 lb Hamburg and 1/2 lb sweet Italian sausage because that’s what I had in the freezer. Used 1.5 jars of pasta sauce because I didn’t have any tomato sauce.

It was easy and everyone loved it

I wanted to do something special for my ‘manfriend’ (as my daughter calls him) for Valentine’s Day and lasagna is one of his favorite meals. I tried it long time ago and it turned out very badly. I decided to look for another recipe and found this one. It was WONDERFUL!!! I did take a tip from some of the reviews and used two jars of spaghetti sauce instead of one. I also used way more cheese than called for but, I love cheese! Next time, to save time and pans to clean, I will combine the meat (I used ground turkey instead of ground beef) sauce, onions, seasonings and minced garlic in the same pan. The only other thing I did different was bake it a little longer after uncovering it. I baked it for about 30 minutes instead of 15 and it turned out great. He loved it and said it was better then some restaurants. Thanks for the amazing recipe. I will definitely be making it again.

Will definitely make again! Loved the flavor depth with sausage and beef and with adding in provolone. Yummy!

I used two bottles of spaghetti sauce as other stated and it turned out great. Just the right consistency.

Very tasty. Not salty like some. Will make it again soon.

This is an easy recipe and we really liked it. I made some changes. I took the oil, onions and sweated the onions out and then added the garlic and cooked a few minutes then added 1# beef and 1/2# sausage instead of sausage flavored sauce. Then added sauce, 24# oz of jar spaghetti sauce and 16oz of my sauce. While this was cooking in the Dutch oven, I made the cheese filling. I couldn’t find shredded provolone so I took sliced and cut them up small then added pepper sand salt and Parmesan and a bit more oregano. The mozzarella was just enough. I always keep spaghetti sauce as extra for after baking.

Directions unclear. Did not say to use cooked noodles. Could have used at least 12 noodles for a pan this size. Need more ricotta at least double the amount. Used all fresh ground sweet Italian sausage. Needed double mozzarella and provolone. All in all flavor and finished dish was good.

Nope not a thing! Love the recipe and the goodness!

no as advertised, awesome easy dish

Haven’t made it. Recipe appears incomplete. No mention on whether Lasagna noodles are boiled first before the pan or put in raw. There is no mention of what you do with the ground beef after you brown it. I assume you add it in a separate layer or do you mix it in the sauce? Please correct.

Far to many ingredients not very Italian

Nothing like having a basic lasagna recipe. Depending on meats available, you can twig what you add by degrees. Anytime I make lasagna, I have to beat off the family to give it time to settle once made so it will serve better. Always a delicious meal. And yes always have more sauce than recipe calls for.
