This was originally intended to be an experiment to replace beef, but it ended up being the finest meatloaf ever.

Prep Time: 20 mins
Cook Time: 50 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins
Servings: 6
Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. ½ pound ground turkey
  2. ½ pound ground chicken breast
  3. ½ pound bulk pork sausage
  4. 1 egg, beaten
  5. 1 (4 ounce) packet crushed saltine crackers
  6. ½ cup sweet barbeque sauce
  7. 1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
  8. 1 teaspoon hickory-flavored liquid smoke
  9. 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  10. 1 teaspoon dried minced onion
  11. 1 teaspoon onion powder
  12. 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  13. 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  14. 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  15. 2 tablespoons sweet barbeque sauce
  16. 1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. Combine the turkey, chicken, sausage, and egg in a large bowl. Stir in the saltine crackers, 1/2 cup barbeque sauce, 1 tablespoon of mustard, liquid smoke, parsley, dried onion, onion powder, garlic salt, and seasoned salt; mix well. Press into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake meatloaf in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Combine the brown sugar with the remaining 2 tablespoons of barbeque sauce, and 1 tablespoon of mustard to make a glaze. Remove meatloaf from oven; brush with glaze. Return the meatloaf to the oven, and bake until no longer pink in the center, about 25 additional minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (75 degrees C).

It was good enough. Didn’t alter much at all. After reading about the saltiness, I did reduce, and still found it salty….I used a real onion in place of powder & dried minced, and used dried minced garlic instead of garlic salt and only put in 1/2 the seasoned salt. If you like sweet/salty for dinner, then this may be right up your alley. The smoke I used was applewood since it is a little lighter for white meat. It was moist. If I were to make it again, Id probably not use BBQ sauce as I found it made it sweeter than I wanted, maybe not use salt at all since saltines have that covered. I’d go more savory next time.

Pretty good meatloaf! I made few substitutions to use what was available at the time. I only used ground chicken. I used bread crumbs for the crackers . I never buy seasoned salt or garlic salt, so I seasoned the meat instead with 1 1/4 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp paprika and dash of cayenne. I made into mini loaves and baked for 40 minutes. I will be making again.

Fantastic! Great twist on plain old meatloaf. I made it exactly as written except for the liquid smoke since I couldn’t find mine in the cabinet. So delicious, I’ve made it twice in the last two weeks!

I used a little less barbecue sauce and a bit of ketchup because we really like it. Also, I only ground turkey. It was very good. I plan on making it again. Thanks!

Since I made some changes, I can’t give this a five. First off, I only had ground chicken so that is all I used. Instead of minced onion and onion powder, I chopped up some fresh onion and I used dijon mustard. Otherwise I followed the recipe and the results were very tasty indeed – both my husband and I loved it and it made great meatloaf sandwiches. Will make this again. Thanks.

I loved this recipe. Usually, I miss my beef, but I have no regrets with this recipe. Very tasty. I’ll be making this again.

This is REALLY good! The only change I make is to skip the ground chicken. The recipe is wonderful as is!
Whitney Romero
The recipe was a little salty. If I made this again I would use fresh onions and good old salt and pepper.

I followed this recipe except I only used 1/2 teaspoon of prepared mustard and I substituted the 1/2 pork sausage, for 12 ounces of turkey sausage. This meatloaf has so much flavor, that I will be definitely making this again and may try using muffin tins as one other reviewer did.

I couldn’t believe that I had made something that tasted so good! My husband loved it as well. I am not a sauce person but I loved it! Thanks!

I made this from what I had on hand, Sub’d Ritz for saltines, Sub’d Basil for parsley, sub’d A-1 for liquid smoke, and sub’d 1 packet onion soup for Onion powder and dried onion. I also used 16 oz of chicken and 12 oz of Hot Breakfast Sausage This was so good! Looking for an alternative to beef and this was a great substitute.

Oh. Yum. Just made this tonight. I almost made the mistake of skipping the glaze, due to laziness. It was SO delicious. Won’t be making another turkey meatloaf besides this one. Great with mashed taters and mixed veggies.

My husband loved it and called it a keeper. My kids and I thought it was a little too rich and did not eat so much. I will make it again but next time I will cut down on the salt…I also thought the glaze was way too sweet, so I might omit the sugar. It’s a nice change to the regular menu but I would definitely serve it with some bland side dishes.

OUTSTANDING!! So outstanding that my husband said he could eat it once a week. We both despise meatloaf but I decided to try this because it wasn’t ground beef. I followed this recipe exactly. We’ll be making this again and again.

This is the best meatloaf I have ever had. I did not have ground turkey, so I used 1 lb. chicken and 1/2 lb. sausage. I used Panko bread crumbs in place of Saltines and increased the amount to about 1/2 cup. I did not have liquid smoke and intended to throw in some Worcestershire sauce instead but forgot about it completely. In place of garlic salt, I used 1/2 tsp. each of garlic powder and salt. I also doubled the sauce portion. Everyone at the table talked about how great it was through the entire meal. Tonight I will make it for the second time using my mini loaf pan.

fabulous! My husband says he hates turkey, but served it and he said it was the best meatloaf he had ever tasted. I modified the recipe. Iused 1 lb. turkey and 1 lb. pork sausage. I didn’t have crackers, so I just used bread crumbs.
Brian Blackwell
We really liked this-I used 1lb of ground chicken and 1/2 lb of pork sausage. It was delicious!

a little dry (probably my fault), but good flavor.
Natalie Gilbert
Great flavor! Used Ritz instead of saltines, omitted the liquid smoke and used a loaf pan. The combination of sausage and bbq sauce was really tasty. It was not mushy at all.

Awesome!!!!! We don’t eat any meatloaf but we ate this! I used 1 lb. turkey & 1 lb. sausage (no chicken on hand) and substituted 2 tsp. A-1 sauce for the liquid smoke. Husband & daughter both requested I make again!!!!
