Eclairs with a semisweet chocolate frosting on top and a chocolate pudding filling inside.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 35 mins
Servings: 9
Yield: 9 mini calzones

Ingredients

  1. 1 (13.8 ounce) package refrigerated pizza dough (such as Pillsbury®)
  2. 9 teaspoons pizza sauce
  3. 1 (1.75 ounce) package pepperoni (such as Hormel®)
  4. 4 ½ tablespoons shredded mozzarella cheese
  5. avocado oil cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Roll out pizza dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut out 9 circles using a 2 1/8-inch biscuit cutter. Roll each circle into a 4 1/2-inch disc. Fill each disc with 1 teaspoon pizza sauce, 3 slices pepperoni, and 1/2 tablespoon mozzarella cheese. Fold over, secure edges by folding, and crimp with the tines of a fork.
  2. Preheat an air fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper and spray with avocado oil. Place a batch of calzones into the basket and mist them with avocado oil.
  3. Air fry for 6 to 8 minutes. Turn calzones over, mist with avocado oil, and air fry until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes more. Repeat with remaining calzones.

I used a mix and made the dough at home. Super fresh. Agree with keeping sauce on the side for dipping. I did a ricotta broccolini, chopped heirloom tomato and Italian spice mixture with some crushed red peppers! Very delish and satisfying. Will make again and again. My daughter also loved hers–meatballs instead of ricotta (not her jam) and added sauce to to make it saucy. She also loved.

It was fun and super easy to make! I used my heart shape cookie cutter for a Valentine’s day appetizer. My friend Laurie said it was “full of flavor and a perfect snack sized treat”

This was a big hit for my family! I got 12 mini calzones out of a package of Pillsbury pizza dough (the kind in the can), and just kind of winged it with the filling amount based on the size of the discs. They came out crispy and delicious in the air fryer.

The calzones were tasty. I used a combo of pepperoni, Italian sausage and mozzarella cheese. I did add extra pepperoni to fill the calzone. Just be careful not to overfill. I also used water on the edges to seal the calzone to prevent leakage. I sprayed the air fryer basket with cooking spray and used a mister filled with olive oil to spray the calzones. I baked at 370 degrees because my air fryer doesn’t have the option of 375 degrees. Thank you Yoly for the great recipe!

Absolutely loved this recipe! Mine did not look as nice as the authors but they were very yummy. I followed the recipe as written making cheese only calzones. Very versatile recipe. Thank you for sharing.

I had to scrap using the air fryer. It wasn’t working out. They stuck. Badly. So I brushed them with oil and put them in a 400 degree oven for about 15 minutes.

THESE ARE SO EASY TO MAKE & DEFINITELY A CROWD PLEASER! THE FLAVOR IS REALLY GOOD, EVERYTIME I MAKE THIS THEY DISAPPEAR OFF THE PLATE. EVERYONE HAS THEIR FAVORITE TOPPINGS…SO I MAKE SURE TO INDIVIDUALIZE FOR MY PICKY EATERS.

the idea sounded great, but calzones have more inside. mini pizza pockets would be a good descriptive name. However, i added a mixture of Italian spices along with a teaspoon with a mixture of cottage cheese (small curd) and ricotta cheese, lessened the pepperoni by 1 slice for room and they turned out great with more of a truer calzone flavor. You can also leave out the sauce and use it for dipping.
