Air Fryer Chinese Sweet and Sour Pork

  4.8 – 3 reviews  • Chinese

This recipe was developed by my British friend and myself as a result of an Italian restaurant dish she had previously sampled. Both simple and wonderful!

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Additional Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 35 mins
Servings: 4
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 ½ pounds pork cutlets, cut into bite-sized pieces
  2. 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  3. 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  4. 1 serving nonstick cooking spray
  5. ¼ cup white sugar
  6. ¼ cup rice vinegar
  7. 4 tablespoons ketchup
  8. 2 tablespoons soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Place pork, cornstarch, and sesame oil in a bowl and toss to coat. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  3. Spray the basket of the air fryer with cooking spray. Place pork in the basket of the air fryer and spray top of pork with cooking spray.
  4. Cook for 10 minutes. Shake the basket and cook pork until desired crispness, about 10 minutes more.
  5. While the pork is cooking, combine sugar, vinegar, ketchup, and soy sauce in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Whisk constantly until sugar is dissolved and mixture comes to a boil. Reduce heat to low and keep sauce warm until ready to use.
  6. Transfer pork to a bowl. Pour sauce on top of the pork and toss to coat.

It was perfect. But I didn’t use the basket. I have an air fryer with trays. Worked really well. Yum!

Really quite good! This is the 5th or so recipe that I’ve seen call for the cornstarch and sesame oil. I’m not sure if I’m alone here but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. In any case, the whole family loves this one! We’ve made it 6 times and going to make it again tonight!

Chinese Five spice is strong (it includes anise) … we thought it was delicious and will make again (maybe a little less 5-spice though)
