Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr
Total Time: 1 hr 5 mins
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  1. 2 ½ pounds chicken wings
  2. 1 tablespoon olive oil
  3. ⅔ cup cayenne pepper sauce
  4. ½ cup butter
  5. 2 tablespoons vinegar
  6. 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  7. ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat an air fryer to 360 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  2. Place wings in a large bowl; drizzle oil over wings and massage until chicken is evenly coated. Arrange 1/2 of the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  3. Cook in the preheated air fryer for 25 minutes. Use tongs to flip wings and cook until golden brown and crisp on the outside, 5 minutes more. Transfer cooked wings to a large bowl; cover to keep warm. Repeat with remaining wings.
  4. While the second batch is cooking, combine hot pepper sauce, butter, vinegar, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir and keep warm until wings are cooked.
  5. Pour sauce over cooked wings and toss to coat.
  6. Please note differences in ingredient amounts when following the magazine version of this recipe, which also includes a dipping sauce.

Hubby has been asking for “air fryer buffalo wings with butter in the sauce.” I had no idea. Then, I found this recipe! I didn’t have quite enough butter, so I adjusted the other ingredients proportionally and a bit less cayenne to our tastes. He was ecstatic! Thank you!

So crispy and great flavor. Cooked half at a time and before I could finish second batch the first was gone.

Removed skin and added garlic salt before air fryer. Time and temperature were on point.

Being from Buffalo, we ONLY make our wings with Frank’s Hot Sauce. That being said this recipe was delicious. Doing it in two batches made the first batch cold by the time the second one was done, even though it says to keep the sauce hot and pour over it. I microwaved the first batch for about 45 seconds and then mixed everything together. Super good and I’ll definitely make them again. Thank you for sharing!

It was great. I used the same recipe except I used Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo mild sauce. I also cooked at 370 degrees heat (I like crispy wings). After both batches were cooked, I coated the wings in the sauce and then cooked another 5 minutes at 370 degrees. The wings were excellent. Thanks.

These are awesome. We know longer buy fried chiken wings because these are so easy, healthy and taste evry bit fried. Thanks for the great recipe!

These were so easy to make, and tasted great. No need to order wings anymore. Who knew an air Fryer cooked so well.

I used a barbecue sauce in place of the cayenne sauce. delicious.

A little suggestion, when I make the sauce for the wings, I would heat the sauce plus and some jelly, any kind would do, this will make the wings sticky.

I loved these. Making them in the airfryer is so easy. The wings are super crispy and not oily. The sauce is delicious. I used Chinese rice wine with 4% acidity, which turned out nicely. I served these with white rice and cool veggies to tame the heat.

These are excellent fried, the air fryer looks so good I was wondering if there is a recommended air fryer .

I think a half recipe is enough. Delicious!

These were the best wings I’ve ever made. We devoured the whole 3 pounds I made. I didn’t make the sauce but used bottled wing sauce and BBQ sauce. Next time I’ll at least double if not triple it. The were delicious and a lot less greasy then regular wings either fried or baked.
