Air Fryer Blackened Chicken Breasts

  4.5 – 52 reviews  • Chicken Breast

These air-fried breaded pork chops are deliciously moist and tender. They only take 10 minutes to prepare and only need common pantry components. You’re welcome to use ordinary cooking spray, but I prefer to use a Misto sprayer with my own oil.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Additional Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 40 mins
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  1. 2 teaspoons paprika
  2. 1 teaspoon ground thyme
  3. 1 teaspoon cumin
  4. ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  5. ½ teaspoon onion powder
  6. ½ teaspoon black pepper
  7. ¼ teaspoon salt
  8. 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  9. 2 (6 ounce) skinless, boneless chicken breast halves

Instructions

  1. Mix paprika, thyme, cumin, cayenne, onion powder, black pepper, and salt together in a bowl; transfer to a large plate.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  3. Rub oil over each chicken breast until fully coated, then press into spice mixture until all sides are coated. Let sit for 5 minutes while the air fryer preheats. Place into the air fryer basket.
  4. Air-fry chicken until no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, about 20 minutes, flipping halfway through. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
  5. Transfer chicken to a plate and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Kinda blah and rubbery, won’t make again

Very easy to make and tastes great! I only used about 1/16 of tsp of cayenne and that was spicy enough for me.

Perfect blend of herbs and spices just needed a bit more heat imo…but made for a great meal!

This was very tasty! I followed the recipe as posted. I did reduced the time in the air fryer as suggested by other reviews. I did 15 minutes. The chicken turned out moist and I will be making this again!

The recipe is very spicy. I probably will use less cayenne pepper next time.

Very tasty chicken dish and so easy. I’ll definitely make it again. The only change I made was using Pam instead of oil on the chicken breasts.

Spice level was just right after adding half again as much to accommodate a third breast. Served with Fettucine Alfredo and there’s only enough left fora small lunch. I’d say it’s a win.

Easy tasty

It was a bit spicy for me but I will make it again. I cut it in half because only did one breast.

I followed the recipe exactly and my wife and I found it to be very spicy. Also, 20 minutes is too long to cook it. I’d suggest 15 minutes or less. I would check it after five minutes and then flip it. If it’s not done then add a few more minutes. Our chicken was dried out.

Yummy!

Good tender chicken. I used honey in place of oil, before I added the spices, reduced the cayenne to 1/8 t. Perfect combination of spicy & sweet. Clean up also a breeze.

Made it per the recipe other than eased up on the thyme a little bit. My chicken breasts were pretty big and thick so I cut them into cutlets so they would be done without drying out. I also had a couple of skinless chicken thighs on hand so I did those too. I thought the thighs were even better, the spices came through more for some reason and they were a little spicier. Rolling the meat in the spices resulted in the first piece picking up most of the spices, so after brushing some of the spices off the first one I sprinkled the spices on the rest and rubbed them in so they would stick.

Great recipe. Instead of chicken, I used boneless pork chops. The coating is wonderfully spicy, but too much so for my wife, so I’ll halve the cayenne next time. I’m keeping the recipe mainly for the coating.

Next I will go easy on the peppers, but it’s really good ….

Too much heat for me. Lots of flavor

Great recipe, added some additional spices to give it a little extra kick.

I made this in a PowerXL air fryer oven and I’m about as far from a cook as they come. I definitely appreciate people sharing their recipes. Rather than preheating, I cooked for 12/10 minutes. It came out really good and probably the juiciest chicken I’ve ever had. As others have said, it’s pretty hot, so make some sort of sauce to sweeten it a little or use a bit less cayenne pepper.

Wayyy too much cayenne. I halved it and it still had a nice kick without being overpowering. I made again and exchanged half each of the cayenne black pepper and cumin (felt cumin too strong as well) for 1/2 tsp garlic powder and additional 1/4 tsp kosher salt. Will keep tweaking, but my version is better for my palate.

I made per the directions. Chicken turned out great!
