Reviews
Family favorite. Great with coffee for breakfast or with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
Were all the positive reviews left for this recipe submitted by family members? Absolutely horrible! Followed the recipe exactly. It doesn’t make batter, it makes dough. Totally crumbly and dry after baking. Nothing can salvage this mess! Something had to be left out of the recipe!!!!
First off – like other reviewers said, the batter was VERY thick. I tried using the hand mixer, Um, not so much. You may need to use the heavy duty mixer or have your husband mix it! I’m positive the cake would have been delicious without any changes, but I made a few, just because I know our taste buds. I added one TBS of cinnamon, an extra TSP of vanilla, used half brown and half white sugar and didn’t bother peeling the apples. Delicious! (Oh, and I added golden raisins because we love those too!)
Simple and delicious! I will definitely make this again.
This is a very easy recipe to make. I’m glad a previous reviewer mentioned that the batter was thick. I ended up adding about 1/2 cup of milk to be able to moisten all that flour. It came out tender and moist! It did not last long enough to take a photo of it!
We really enjoyed this recipe. I will use a spice cake next time though with it. It was a nice looking bundt cake. It was frosted with a brown sugar glaze-add apple pie or pumpkin pie spice if you want a bit more flavor.
Easy to make and my wife really liked it !
I just pulled this cake out of the oven and he a tiny taste and it’s great! I did make a few small changes to the recipe. I used a cup of oil and a cup of applesauce, instead of all oil. I also used half white sugar and half brown sugar. Added 4 Tblspoon of plain yogurt because we didn’t have any sour cream. The batter was very moist, probably because of the applesauce. Baked the cake for one hour in a glass 9 x 13″ pan @ 350 and it came out perfect. Thank you Adam and your family for a great recipe!
I have a question. In the video the amount of oil is 3/4 cup, but in the ingredient list it’s 1 & 1/2 cups. Has anyone tried it with 3/4 cup oil instead of the 1& 1/2 cups? I want to make this, but I am curious about the oil amount. THANKS!
A suggestion that I tried that really made this moist was to whip the oil and eggs together first until they combined, then add the other liquid ingredients to that mixture. Mix all of the dry ingredients together before adding it to the wet. Add apples last and my family likes to add chopped walnuts. Great with coffee!
This cake was moist and delicious!
So the batter is extremely thick and it wasn’t blending well, as per previous comments. So what I did was I added some milk… About 1 cup of milk while blending the mix.. you don’t want it too liquidy. Also I added 2 table spoons of vanilla extract! And the apples I blended them in a blender for smaller pieces and easier to mix
Like other people said the dough was very thick. I added about 3/4 cup sour cream, 2 Tblsp lemon juice & 1/2 cup dried cranberries. Came out delicious
A simple, fairly quick recipe. Good flavors and there’s so much sugar in this that the top kind of caramelizes into a thin, crispy layer. I’ll make this again.
If I could, I’d give this cake 10*! Absolutely delicious. Loved it. And so easy to make. Thank you young man (Adam) for posting this cake. I’m sure your grandmother is very proud! . This cake will definitely be made many times in my house!
Followed directions exactly, I love it. i bake one a week for friends and family. Ease, effortless, delicious.
I agree is is awesome and easy! I love the cake and will make it many more times in the near future.
I found it to be dry. I will try it again, as my wife loves apple desserts, but I am going to add in1c of applesauce to try to increase the moisture of it.
This is a great apple cake and easy to make. I’ve done with half brown sugar and half white, just because I like the flavor of brown sugar. Doesn’t matter because I’d make it either way. 🙂 I’ve also cut the recipe in half and used in an 8×8 pan. Any negative reviews are a mystery to me, but to each his own. I’ve already saved this as a favorite and will certainly make it again. Thank you for the recipe!
I just added 1/3 of a cup of milk and 2 tbs of oil and it was delicious!!
Delicious and moist cake that is so easy to make! I made it exactly to the written directions, using the 1 1/4 cup of oil as directed, not the 3/4 cup listed in the video. Perhaps this difference is why some reviewers said their cake was dry. The batter is going to be thick and crumbly before you add the apples. The moisture in the apples will change the consistency of the batter as you mix them in. I baked for 40-45 minutes until a toothpick came out clean. You won’t be disappointed if you make this cake!
