Sheet Pan Pizza with Hillshire Farm® Smoked Sausage & Burst Cherry Tomatoes

Pizza night is undoubtedly the best night of the week, and this sheet pan version is quick and delicious. For a dinner the whole family will enjoy, we replace the traditional red sauce with a flavorful garlic and herb base that is then topped with cheese, smoky sausage, and vegetables.

Ingredients

  1. 1 (16 ounce) package frozen pizza crust
  2. 6 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  3. 1 tablespoon chopped fresh garlic
  4. 1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano
  5. 1 (8 ounce) ball fresh mozzarella, thinly sliced
  6. 1 cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
  7. ½ cup thinly sliced yellow bell pepper
  8. ¼ cup thinly sliced red onion
  9. 1 (14 ounce) package Hillshire Farm® Smoked Sausage, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch-thick slices
  10. ⅔ cup cherry tomatoes, halved

Instructions

  1. Thaw and let pizza crust rise according to package directions.
  2. Spread 3 tablespoons oil over the base of an 11×17-inch sheet tray. Stretch the dough to meet all corners and edges of the sheet tray. If the dough is difficult to stretch, let rest for 10 minutes, then begin to stretch again.
  3. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. In a small bowl, mix together the remaining 3 tablespoons oil, chopped garlic, and fresh oregano. Drizzle evenly and spread over the top of the crust.
  4. Top with fresh mozzarella slices, then shredded mozzarella, yellow bell pepper, red onion, smoked sausage slices, and cherry tomatoes.
  5. Place on the bottom rack of the oven. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, until the crust is golden. Let cool 5 minutes, then serve.

I made my own dough for this because we like personal pizzas so that’s what I did. I followed the recipe, except for the following: I used half of the smoked sausage and pulsed it in my food processor. Then I sauteed that with the peppers, onions, and herbs. I just didn’t want large pieces of the sausage on the pizza. It turned out perfectly delicious! It’s a great combination of flavors and by chopping the sausage finely, there was deliciousness in every bite. I’d definitely make it again this way. Thanks for a great dinner!!

This was a pretty darn tasty pizza! Hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I used a homemade multigrain pizza crust and fresh basil in place of oregano–otherwise followed the recipe as-is. Really delicious, with a great combo of flavors! Thanks so much for the recipe!

I have never tried smoked sausage on a pizza. It kind of reminded me of an open faced sandwich. The toppings make this more of an adult pizza. I made two smaller ones and baked them at 400 degrees. The kids liked the sausage and cheese but not the onions and peppers. I would save this for a party appetizer with adults & make the kids one with sauce, cheese, & meat. Ty
