Bacon & Cheddar Green Bean Casserole

  4.8 – 10 reviews

About 20 years ago, my Persian neighbor first introduced me to these turkey kofta kebabs. Although I never did obtain his recipe, these were fairly similar to what he had in mind in terms of flavor. Originally cooked with beef, these are much lighter when made with turkey.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 30 mins
Total Time: 40 mins
Servings: 12
Yield: 1 3-quart casserole

Ingredients

  1. 4 (14.5 ounce) cans Del Monte Green Beans, any style, drained
  2. 2 (10.5 ounce) cans Campbell’s Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
  3. 2 ⅔ cups French’s French Fried Onions, divided
  4. 1 cup milk
  5. ½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
  6. 6 slices cooked bacon, divided
  7. ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Combine green beans, condensed soup, milk, and pepper in a large bowl. Add 1 1/3 cups French-fried onions and 1/2 of the Cheddar cheese.
  3. Crumble 5 slices of bacon; add to the green bean mixture and mix until well combined. Transfer to a 3-quart baking dish.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for until hot and bubbly, about 25 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven and stir. Sprinkle with the remaining Cheddar and onions. Crumble remaining slice of bacon over top.
  6. Return to the oven and bake until onions are golden brown, about 5 more minutes.

This recipe is great. The only thing I did different was to add a teaspoon of Worchestershire, and one of soy sauce. Perfect. We will be having this as a side dish at least once a month.

Green bean casserole had been a tradition in my family for generations. I found that if I don’t want to cook bacon if I’m on a time crunch, I use Hormel bacon pieces from the bacon bits section at the grocery store.

We made this for Christmas dinner, green bean casserole doesn’t last long in this house. It was not a hit.

I forgot to rate this last year, but it was such a huge hit I’m doing it for Christmas again (and forever lol). I DID make some changes 1- I steam fresh green beans instead of using canned stuff. 2- I make my own condensed Cream of Mushroom soup instead of using canned stuff. Then measure out 1 and a third cups (the left over I just make soup out of) 3- I make my own French Fried Onions (you guessed it- instead of using canned stuff.) This recipe is awesome, but using fresh ingredients really brings it to life. Thank you so much for this recipe!

No changes. It’s great just as it is. I did use a couple of extra strips of bacon, just because…. lol. Nice change from the usual.

I usually make the traditional casserole, but not anymore, this was amazing. definitely a new addition to Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners… possibly week night dinners also. Thanks so much for sharing.

A great way to improve on green bean casserole. I couldn’t taste the cheese so I’m going to make it again without and see if it’s still as good.

I used fresh green beans, and cooked them prior to baking. Everyone in my family could not stop eating it!!
