Ingredients

  1. 2 cups water
  2. 3 black tea bags, preferably English breakfast tea
  3. 1 1/3 cups Ginger Simple Syrup, recipe follows
  4. 2/3 cup fresh lemon juice, from about 3 lemons
  5. 1 cup sparkling water or club soda, chilled
  6. 2 cups ice
  7. Lemon slices, for garnish, optional
  8. 1 cup granulated sugar
  9. 1 cup water
  10. 1 (2-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled and chopped

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, bring the water to a boil over high heat. Remove the pan from the heat and add the tea bags. Stir and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes. Remove the tea bags and discard. Add the Ginger Simple Syrup, lemon juice, and sparkling water.
  2. Put the ice in a large pitcher. Pour the lemonade mixture over the ice. Garnish with lemon slices and serve.
  3. In a small saucepan, over medium heat, combine the sugar, water and ginger. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved, about 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool, about 20 minutes. Strain before using.

This was insanely sweet the first time i made it. The second time I only added about half of the ginger simple syrup and it tasted just perfect!

My husband is a huge iced tea lover so thought I’d give this a try. I was expecting more of a lighter effervescence, but instead it was extremely sweet and the combination of ingredients gave it a strong “honey” flavor. We didn’t care for it at all.

Very refreshing and tasty. I loved it. My daughter, son-in-law and husband, were going crazy while drinking this tea. I am going to make it today again.

Just can’t rave about this enough – fantastic! It might be on the sweet side for some, so add about 1/2 the syrup and taste. I ended up adding all the syrup, but added a little more club soda than the recipe called for. My 17 year old Coke-fanatic son loved this. Try it! Thank you, Giada!
