Ingredients
- 3 cups fresh blackberries
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint, plus mint sprigs for garnish
- 6 good-quality black tea bags
- Good-quality bourbon, to taste (Bobby likes Woodford Reserve)
Instructions
- Combine the blackberries, sugar and chopped mint in a large bowl and mash with a potato masher or wooden spoon; let sit while making the tea.
- While the blackberries are macerating, bring 1 1/2 quarts cold water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags and let steep for about 3 minutes. Remove the tea bags and pour the tea over the blackberry mixture. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld.
- Pour the mixture through a strainer into a pitcher, pressing on the solids. Cover and refrigerate until cold, at least 2 hours. (You can also pour the mixture into a bowl set over an ice bath to cool it faster.)
- Serve the blackberry tea over ice in tall glasses and float a shot of bourbon on top of each. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs (like a mint julep).

I love any kind of berry so I knew I needed to try this. It is so good!! Thank you Bobby Flay! I just made a batch of strawberry green tea following the blackberry recipe, I hope it is as good.
Made this – totally awesome, refreshing beverage. Superb with or without the bourbon.
LOVE this drink recipe! The only thing I did differently was use agave and honey instead of sugar and it tasted delicious. Not too sweet at all and a very refreshing cocktail.
Delicious
It is very good with the bourbon or as a non-alcohol drink.
This drink was amazing!!! Due to time constraints, I pureed the blackberries, sugar and mint in a blender. I also improvised by substituting Trader Joe’s pre-sweetened black ice tea versus homemade. I combined the puree, ice tea and 21/2 cups of Woodford Reserve bourbon. The result was an incredibly smooth (the bourbon provides a nice finish on your palate nicely sweetened tea with delicates hints of mint. Go for the higher quality bourbon, it makes a world of difference. It was super simple to create. This is definitely my new favorite!
The blackberry/mint/iced tea combination is amazing. The bourbon blends in nicely, although we preferred it stirred in instead of floated on top.
This delightful and refreshing cocktail was well worth the blackberry picking scratches that come along with the task. I made this for my husband on a Monday afternoon and am happy to report that this blackberry tea made for a fantastic Monday evening.
The flavor was ripe and juicy, refreshing and a great treatment for bourbon, generally left sitting on the bar shelf until the cooler months roll around.
I will deffinately be keeping this recipe on hand. A+

Hmmmm. The color was gorgeous but the flavor of the tea a little bland. I don’t know if lime is good with bourbon but I added a generous squeeze and the citrus brightened it up considerably. Also added a bit of sparkling water and with this and the lime, the drink was (in my opinion a lot better. I would make it again but only with the addition of the carbonation and the citrus. Fun twist on tea, though.
I am absolutely addicted to this during the hot summer months. If you are offering to guests, double the batch, it will go quickly. Woodford Reserve is great but Knob Creek might be a bit better as the bourbon. Use plenty of mint!
