Ingredients
- 1 15-ounce can no-salt-added diced tomatoes, drained
- 2 large carrots, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
- 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup roughly chopped fresh cilantro, plus more for topping
- 4 scallions, chopped, plus more for topping
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter
- 1 1/2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon ancho chile powder
- 2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder or ground cinnamon
- 1 skinless, bone-in turkey breast (about 2 1/2 pounds)
- 18 corn tortillas
Instructions
- Combine the tomatoes, carrots, bell pepper, cilantro, scallions, peanut butter, soy sauce, chile powder, cocoa powder and Chinese five-spice powder in a 6-quart slow cooker and stir to combine. Add the turkey and turn to coat. Cover and cook on low, 8 hours.
- Remove the turkey and transfer to a large plate; shred the meat with 2 forks, discarding the bone. Return the shredded turkey to the slow cooker and stir to coat.
- Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or in the microwave. Serve the turkey in the tortillas and top with more cilantro and scallions.

Was disappointing…. I was going for a traditional tasting mole…the flavor was okay but definitely not a mole taste at all..there was lot of liquid which made the taco on the running side .. not like the traditional thicker mole sauce that I’m used to ..there was no spice at all..however the meat was tender and juicy which is why I gave this recipe two stars .. Sadly I won’t be making this again
The recipe was VERY EASY, turkey tender, moist, perfect paired with a nice salad. I had to double all the spices in order to get a more flavorful combo, and added some salt. It was VERY BLAND without changes. I was shocked to see how much liquid accumulated at the end as even with a slotted spoon, it was much too wet and would soak through the shells. It has potential, but needs a lot more spices and SALT
My husband and I loved this recipe. It was easy and the meat came out perfectly.
So yummy! Great for pot lucks with plenty of left overs. I use powdered peanut butter rather than regular and it works great.
Absolutely disgusting. I made this exactly to the recipe. But, neither my wife or I could eat more than a bite of it. Texture wise it was a sloppy mess. As far as taste goes, it had plenty of flavor. It just wasn’t a good flavor. The combination of spices and cocoa powder created a vaguely cocoa, vaguely cinnamon, vaguely muddy flavor. Not appetizing at all. Normally when recipes don’t turn out how I want I have ideas on how I can improve them. I have no idea where to even start with this one.

Almost tasteless. Extremely bland. I think that this recipe has potential, but needs far more herbs and/or spices to make this recipe come together.

This is great! I added some chipotles in adobo sauce to add some depth and it was lovely. My mole hating husband even though it was yummy!
