Ingredients

  1. 3 (15 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with green chile peppers
  2. 2 (15 ounce) cans chili beans in spicy sauce
  3. 1 (16 ounce) jar hot salsa
  4. 1 (15 ounce) can dark red kidney beans
  5. 1 (15 ounce) can light red kidney beans
  6. 1 (15 ounce) can seasoned black beans
  7. 2 small onions, chopped
  8. 6 cloves garlic, crushed
  9. 2 tablespoons chili powder
  10. 2 tablespoons red pepper flakes
  11. 2 tablespoons coarsely ground black pepper
  12. 2 tablespoons ground cumin
  13. 1 (1.25 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
  14. 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  15. 2 pounds ground turkey

Instructions

  1. Combine diced tomatoes with green chiles, chili beans, salsa, dark and light red kidney beans, black beans, onions, garlic, chili powder, red pepper flakes, black pepper, cumin, taco seasoning mix, and hot sauce in a large soup pot. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and cover pot. Simmer until soup is heated and onions are translucent, about 20 minutes.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir ground turkey in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, about 10 minutes; drain and discard grease. Stir crumbled turkey into chili.
  3. Cover pot and simmer chili until flavors have blended, about 1 hour.

Like others, I had to omit a lot of the heat. If you want heat, go for it. Just be aware that a lot of people with mild palates won’t be able to eat it. If you want savory I suggest looking elsewhere.

Love this recipe. I added white beans also. Perfect spices.

Was looking for a base recipe for a chili and came across this. For the most part I stuck to the recipe but added some of my own stuff like a couple jalapenos, a splash of red wine, and only had 1lb turkey and 1lb spicy chorizo. Was looking for s spicy recipe and this delivered. All-in-all it’s a good recipe. Made it more than a handful of times.

Trying to eat more ground turkey, so this recipe caught my eye. I knew in looking at the ingredients that if I followed this recipe exactly, it would be too hot for us. We like things spicy, but not “fiery” as the recipe author describes this chili. I cut back the black pepper and the red pepper flakes, and it was still spicy good (and just about perfect for us). Unless you really like it HOT, I’d suggest you start out modestly on the heat ingredients and then add more to suit your taste. This is my first effort at turkey chili, and we enjoyed this recipe. It will be made again.

I used a jar of spicy habanero salsa (which may be a bit too hot for most). However, this gave the turkey fantastic flavor! This recipe has a nice mix of seasonings, beans, etc. Chili is one of my family’s favorites, so I constantly try new recipes…this is a recipe that everyone raved about. it’s a keeper!!
