Chicken panang curry exemplifies the diversity of southern Thailand. The Penang island in northern Malaysia, which borders southern Thailand, is referred to as Panang. If you don’t have time to make your own paste, use 5 teaspoons of premade curry paste or 4 tablespoons of fresh curry paste.

Made this many times. Used Country Style Pork Ribs, 2#. Wow! I add the potato, carrot, celery after 4 hours. Cook til the fifth hour. I Think 8 cups of water is the go to like everyone says here.
Easy and love it.
I wish I read the reviews before I made it, I would have added less water…other than the amount of water it’s delicious!
Yummy! I did as others suggested to decrease water by 2 cups and it was perfect for me. Thanks for sharing this recipe!
Very tasty. When I make it again I will either use a little less water or add more peas. I did have to thicken it up for My taste. I added a little cornstarch and I pulled out some of the peas and potatoes and pureed them and re-added. I definitely recommend this recipe.
Made it at the fire station. We were expecting more flavor and thicker texture. I would decrease the water by 2 cups and add another chicken bouillon cube.
This soup was amazing! Both my husband and son could not get enough of it. Instead of sausage, I added the bone from a left over spiral ham and followed others with only 8 cups of chicken stock. Amazing…thanks for sharing!
I never realized how easy it is to make split pea soup in the slow cooker! I did make a few changes due to personal preference. I used all chicken stock, cubed ham, no oregano, used Rosemary instead. Kept the rest the same. I was done in 3 hours on high in my slow cooker. The peas were cooked through, not mushy, not crunchy; just right! The soup itself was nice and creamy. A definite keeper! Thank you 4 sharing.
I’ve made this before and really liked it. I thawed the meat and prepped the veggies this morning to make it again… only to discover I only have half the amount of peas. So I’ve substituted 1/2 barley. We shall see how this turns out!!!
Loved this. I wanted to use up a ham bone so used it instead of the sausage, but look forward to using that next time. Split Pea soup is my favorite! I didn’t have a large slow cooker so added 5-6 c water instead. Didn’t have an onion or bay leaves either. Use what you have while quarantined. It was delicious! This will be my go to recipe now. I was using Better Homes & Garden recipe, but no comparison! Yum!!
I’ve made this recipe several times. I end up using a large can of beer along with stock. It’s very convenient and leftovers keep well.
I didn’t have potatoes to thicken so I just used two cups less water.
I halved the amount and used beef broth for half the water. I liked it a lot.
This is a great recipe although it does take longer than 5hrs to cook I would say 7minimum if you want a nick thick soup I did use ham instead of sausage because that is what I had and did only use 8cups of water instead of 10 because I have a smaller crockpot but over all a great recipe
I stopped using my slow cooker some time ago, as I feel there is less control over recipes like this. I like to be able to take off the cover and check seasoning and perhaps add an ingredient that might be missing and quickly return it to cooking temperature. Instead I made it in a favorite stock pot and poked and prodded and tasted till it was perfect. And it is a wonderful soup. Jim
Used turkey sausage and 2 bouillon cubes. I love this.
I modified the recipe by substituting diced smoked ham instead of sausage and cut the water down to 6 cups it was perfectly thick. Very tasty but Does make quite a bit of soup, great for a group !
As written, the recipe comes out a little thin. I prefer to reduce the water to 8 cups. This does make a lot of soup, but it freezes well for leftovers at a later date.
My family love it.
Double the sausage.
My family and friends all love this recipe. I used 1/2 water and 1/2 chicken broth. I added fresh garlic in place of the powdered and added smoked ham and smoked sausage as well as a ham bone. Cooked on the stove for 3 hours and then transfered to a crock pot to keep warm
