Reviews
great great base! I added 3 or 4x the garlic and triple most of the spices. (Not salt and pepper) added chalula and jalapeños. (Peppers and onions I eye ball but it was more like 1 cup of onion bell pepper and celery to beef up the amount.
Just didn’t do it for me. Was very bland. I even tried to spice it up.
After cooking the beef, I did not drain it before adding it to the slow cooker. I substituted the 2 cans of tomato puree with 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1 can tomato sauce, and 1 can of tomato paste. I only used 2 cans of kidney beans, 1 drained and 1 with liquid. I increased the chili pepper to 1 T. I added some paprika and cumin, about 1 t each of them.
some major changes: 1 pound ground pork, 1 pound ground turkey, 42oz od Kidney Beans, can of Black Beans, one can Cannellini beans, tbls of Chili powder, 1/4 tsp of Chipoltle Chili powder. followed the direction and cooked on low for 8 hrs. It was a nice thick meaty chili. I did add about a cup of water after 4 hours because it looked a little dry. Have plenty for the week. Served with sourcream.
I dont like the fact you use the juice of the two can of beans. Waters down the flavor. I drain them then use some beef stock and some tomato sauce.
I use 28 oz of puree and use ground turkey. Its a favorite.
I liked it because it uses very little canned stuff. Didn’t use the bell pepper or celery. Cooked it on high for 4 – 6 hours.
My whole family loved this recipe. I swapped a can of kidney beans for an additional pound of ground beef. I also used 1 whole tablespoon of chili powder. Will definitely make this again!
Added corn.
Needs steak note ground beef
This is pretty tasty but doesn’t taste like chili, more like a stew. I made a few changes as others have done. One lb. of meat isn’t enough, so I also used one lb. of ground sausage which made it more hearty & added taste. I did not add celery, I added cumin, used fresh parsley & basil instead of dried, and I drained all three cans of beans. Generally a nice taste but not a recipe I’ll use again.
The best chili I ever made!! Thank You!!
Good chili. Why the crockpot for 8 hours? Ground beef and beans are already cooked. Assemble in a pot and simmer for half an hour.
i made this as printed, turned out good but not great. Made a few small changes, cooked the beans a little longer to soften them up a bit and added a 50/50 mix of hamburger and ground chicken. added a bit more salt and pepper. gave this dish a great overhaul!! As a note we wanted to get abet more healthy eating and this made a perfict fit
Very tasty. I always use this recipe but bump up the spices. I add cayenne, Paprika, and more chilli powder. I also add chilli peppers or jalopenos, whatever I have on hand.
Weirdly bland, bit watery. Tasted of almost nothing until I added a bunch of salt, then it tasted like it was right out of the can. Not disgusting or anything, just one of the poorer chili recipes I’ve used.
1-30-2021 made for first time.
This is our go to chili and we love it. We have made this recipe of chili probably a dozen times now. As a matter of fact, I have some in the crock pot as I type this up. You will love this chili and it is so easy to make.
My go-to chili recipe. Play with your hot sauce for the final tweak but just a terrific recipe.
Very tasty. I added bell peppers and celery.
This recipe was great. So easy and very flavorful. I had stew meat so I used that instead. I’m probably going to delete my other chili recipes
