I substituted V8 juice for water and tomato soup. It was awesome!!! My kids wanted seconds and my husband (not a soup lover) really liked it and said “I’d eat that again”.
Have been making this for years, My family loves it and it’s so easy to make.
Added a package of Beefy Onion Lipton soup mix to the water and tomato soup. This was a crowd-pleaser! Will definitely be making it again.
I substituted beef broth for the water and added a bit of HP sauce. delicious!
Great soup, loved it. Soup was as much of a stew as a soup.
Added 16oz bag of mixed vegetables, garlic powder and onion powder. Used large can 28oz Italian seasoned diced tomatoes and 3 cups water with 3tsp beef bouillon powder instead of tomato soup and water.
I didn’t have celery so I threw in some celery seed. It was awesome! I will definitely make it again. I can see varying ingredients depending on what I have, but it is so simple and so good.
I love it. I have made it several times. My daughter works long hours, so I make it and give some to her to take to work for lunches. She loves it too.
Made it with some changes. Added a cup of red wine, 2 tablespoons of dried parsley, 2 1/2 pounds of 90/10 hamburger, frozen green beans instead of peas, 28 ounces of crushed tomatoes, and 2 tablespoons of garlic powder. Topped with hot sauce after serving. 5 stars.
I couldn’t give it a 5-star rating because I had to make adjustments to it. The original recipe is worthy of a four-star. I did have to add tons of spices because it was extremely bland. I added garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, oregano, a tad bit of sugar just to add a hint of sweetness. I also instead of a lot of water I used a can of diced tomatoes actually it was two cans of diced tomatoes and chicken broth with beef bouillon cubes , instead of peas I used corn. Extremely tasty. Cooked it for 10 hours in my Crock-Pot and will make again
No wanted to try as is first then maybe tweek it later
This was just okay. There are so many versions of Hamburger soup. I like my version much better. I don’t use tomato soup . I use 2 cans tomato sauce and 1 can diced tomatoes with green chilis. For the frozen veggies I use 1 pkg. of veg. soup mix and 1 frozen mixed veg. I also add diced potatoes. I season the meat with salt, pepper and lots of garlic powder. The onion is cooked with the meat. Then the rest is added and cooked till the veg. are done.

No tomato soup! I added a can of tomatoes, used frozen peas just before finishing the soup. Don’t forget a little granulated garlic. Also used corn. Made a roux to thicken it up. The girl scouts call it hobo stew
This stew turned out great. I didn’t have any potatoes, so I used sweet potatoes, and no peas, one family member dislikes them. Easy to put together, aroma while cooking let me know it would be good. Ate some for dinner, and my son warmed it up for midnight snack. Made delicious leftovers.
This was delicious. Added some garlic salt and celery salt as one reviewer stated, and diced the onions but otherwise left as is. We will have this again.
Very very bland for our family’s taste buds. We’re used to soups being very flavorful and full bodied. However, upon making it adding in all the ingredients, plus my own spices, my kids walking past said how great it smelled and they couldn’t wait to try it! I used leftover taco meat plus added more ground beef. We like more meat in our soups. I didn’t leave out the peas and they were very tasty in this soup. I did add beef bouillon and more water than it called for. All my veggies were as stated but fresh in the recipe plus a few potatoes. I also didn’t add tomatoes. Just our preference. Made in this in my instant pot and it took longer to cut up all the fresh veggies than it did to cook. Def will make again when weather becomes more brisk. Thanks for the recipe.
I wasn’t sure about this combination but followed the recipe (except used ground turkey) and it turned out very yummy! The family agrees this is a “keep” recipe!
Instead of Condensed tomato soup I used Progresso Tomato soup with Basil and added only a 1/2 can water. Very good, my hubby liked it very much.
I liked it, but it wasn’t as big of a hit with my family as i thought it would be. It was very filling. Another thing I like about it is that I had everything on hand so it is good to make in a pinch, and you can easily substitute a few things 🙂
Simple and delicious. I added diced tomatoes.
