Tweaked it by adding beef broth intermittently during the simmer time when it looked like it was getting too dry. Substituted chopped fresh broccoli for the green beans (diet preference). Since I thought the macaroni would not be soft in time at the end, I cooked it in beef broth before adding. Overall, it’s a keeper & I want to make it again!
Loved this recipe. substituted peas for green beans (personal preference). Didn’t add potatoes. Awesome!! It’s my “Go-to” recipe, now, for goulash every time.
very good added red peppers
I did some tweaks to this. My husband wanted the green beans on the side, and instead of macaroni I used whole wheat rotini.
I give this 3 1/2 stars. I found it to be tasty and easy to prepare. It was a bit dry for my taste. I added additional tomato sauce and we enjoyed it for dinner and the next day for lunch.
tasted very good BUT directions are not very clear. it never said times a uncooked macaroni bit it also never said COOK macaroni separate. I cooked it separate and added in the end. it is a bit strange to have potatoes AND macaroni.
I added water at the beginning and end, otherwise it’s too dry. I used Adobo instead of garlic salt, and added fresh cilantro near the end. Delicious!
I had to add water
this is perfect just the way it is it’s just exactly the way my mom used to make it except she didn’t add potatoes it’s perfect thank you
Great basic idea but like many other folks I added items. After hamburger onions & peppers are cooked I added two full cups of beef broth, one 14 oz can of petite tomatoes, one 8oz can tomato sauce, a can of drained corn along with the drained can of green beans. I precooked my potatoes & macaroni so it could be added the last fifteen minutes. I was afraid the potatoes wouldn’t cook on simmer and I prefer to control the al dente of the pasta. The usual spices as recommended worked great. Served with cheddar cheese. It was delicious!! Thanks for all the other notes it helped me a great deal.
Very good! Added additional 3 cups of water to thin it.
The pasts took quite a while to cook at the end. I might add it earlier in the process, include 1 cup water or raise heat. however, really delicious; we all had seconds!
My husband loves it. Tastes like grandma used to make.
Had to add water to cook it all together and then some marinara as well bc it was too dry. Other than that it was pretty good.
My Children Loved it…..
Yummy and filling
Added a pinch of sugar
Quick and easy and tastes good. Need I say more?
This was great .Only one change we added one can diced tomatoes. Even our picky eater ate it.
I used as a base recipe, I didn’t add the potatoes or the other veggies except I did add corn and about a 1/4 cup of green peppers. My husband loved it!
Overall good dish. Wasn’t a fan of the potatoe but otherwise good. Added a bit more worstershire sauce to off balance the tomatoe flavor. Plus it was the only salt I put in.
