Easy Mild Chili

  4.6 – 5 reviews  • Beef Chili Recipes

The taste of this mild chili dish comes from kidney beans, chunky tomatoes, and ground sausage. Replace the mild salsa with a medium- to high-heat salsa for a hotter chili.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr 40 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 50 mins
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound ground beef
  2. 1 pound ground sausage
  3. 1 yellow onion, chopped
  4. 2 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes
  5. 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  6. 1 (15 ounce) can light red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  7. 1 (15 ounce) can dark red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  8. 1 (8 ounce) jar mild salsa
  9. ¼ cup chili seasoning mix
  10. ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef, sausage, and onion in the hot skillet until beef and sausage are completely browned, 7 to 10 minutes; drain and discard grease.
  2. Stir stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, light red kidney beans, dark red kidney beans, mild salsa, chili seasoning mix, and garlic powder into beef mixture; bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low, and cook at a simmer until flavors meld, 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Made this twice: first one according to the recipe and the second with substituting diced tomatoes. Both were outstanding. Will do with diced from now on.

I’m re-learning how to cook. This was very easy and tasty. I’ve made it twice and will keep making it.

Made a meatless, veggie chili by adapting this recipe by substituting protein crumbles instead of beef and sausage. Turned out very nice tasty. Kept all the other ingredients the same.

I just love chili and I’m always trying new chili recipes. I was skeptical because this one doesn’t have cumin. I mean what good chili recipe doesn’t call for cumin? But this one is really good! I’ll probably make this one again. Its simple and delicious.
