Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

  4.4 – 0 reviews  • Chicken and Dumpling Recipes

a filling stew made in the Instant Pot® using mushrooms instead of beef. I pulled lima beans and peas from my freezer. Almost anything could be used. For protein, I chose red beans.

This was yummy and came out great but it was a little bland. The chicken cooked up very nicely & fell apart beautifully at when it was all done. I added peas for interest & personal taste. In the future, I will add more veggies & herbs to add a little flavor. This is a good recipe to use as a base & then customize as wanted 🙂

Really good! I used chicken broth instead of water. Half cream of chicken and half cream of celery, and added peas. Next time I’ll add carrots too. Could only find 15 oz biscuits but still turned out great. Let them cook 1 hour per other reviews.

Best chicken and dumplings I have ever had! Seriously!

I seasoned my chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder on each side. I used Chicken broth instead of water and added a 3 cups instead of 2. I also added about half a bag of frozen carrots and peas. I also had to cook the biscuits for about an hour. DELICIOUS. My kids and husband devoured it!

Amazing!!! Will definitely make again!!

Delish! Used 1 can cream of mushroom only because I mistakenly thought I had 2 cans of cream of chicken. Also used onion powder instead of onions (hubby hates them so this ensures the flavor without the telltale pieces of onion, lol). Threw in some baby carrots based on some other people’s posts – next time will add some peas too.

This is great because it’s easy. But the biscuit dough took WAY longer to cook and was runny! Otherwise I would have given it a higher rating.

This was the first time I made any type of chicken and dumplings. It was actually very good, a bit thin so I added some flour for thickening, added a bag of sliced carrots for flavor and color, and substituted chicken bone broth for the water to add extra flavor and protein. It was very easy to make, tasty, and I will use it (minus the “dumplings”) as the base for chicken and rice, chicken over noodles, etc. Thank you Janiece for a wonderful recipe!

Simple, quick and delicious!

I would add the raw dough a bit earlier, but that’s based on how you like the texture of your biscuit/dumplings. I would say leave in for an hour. Overall I enjoyed this and will make it again. Would season chicken well before cooking will make all the difference, as well as not using water and using broth or stock.

My changes. Feeds 6 with leftovers. Used one full bag of carrot sticks without cutting them. Add salt and pepper. Used six large chicken breasts. Cut off grizzle, fat, and bone. Cut each breast into three pieces. Cooked on high in the slow cooker for six hours because of extra chicken. Used Progresso chicken stock—32 ounce size. FREEZING: Take the dumplings out completely. Instead of freezing the dumplings, take a fresh roll of biscuits and put them on top of the soup and remake them. They come out mushy if you freeze them and put them back in.

Delicious!! Used chicken broth instead of water. And seasoned with a little salt and pepper and garlic powder. Shredded chicken before adding biscuit dough 45 mins before serving.

I used chicken broth instead of water. Next time my season the breasts a little with salt, pepper and garlic , but it was pretty good without it.

I cut up a whole chicken so I have dark meat as well. Save the neck, gizzards etc. for later making gravy. I love my dumplings made with Bisquick with parsley. I also add sliced carrots.

Not dumplings. They are processed “biscuits” scones. You really need real suet as well. Sodium very high so cut down processed salty soups. Fine in a hurry.

Easy recipe! Will jeep un rotation!

I have come back to this recipe time and again. Delicious!

Sure it was nice and easy, but something about it made me feel bad about myself. I was off to a good start throwing in some healthy chicken breasts, but then once I felt like I was just adding a bunch of sodium with the Chicken soup and then the biscuits are pure indulgence. My husband stopped eating since it seemed so unhealthy. Mind you, I rarely cook, so to have him not finish his dinner was weird. I finished mine and ate more for lunch the next day, so it was tasty, but just don’t expect to get in your skinny jeans or tell your doctor what you just had. Other than that, it was nice to have the house smelling yummy.

Love this easy recipe! Made a few times and I add some carrots and celery to make the broth even more flavorful.
