I make Burgers with a combination of Dry Onion Soup Mix and one third jar of Salsa. I didn’t have the packaged mix in my cupboard so tried this substitute. I won’t be spending money on the store bought mix anymore and from now on will make this up fresh when I need it. Great recipe!
It worked great Love the flavor too!
Made this in place of purchasing Lipton Onion Soup Mix. Love, love, love! Trying to get back to basics and make most of my mixes at home. This was not a disappointment. Thanks so much!
Fabulous. I’m a vegetarian so use mushroom bullion instead and it makes the perfect mushroom stroganoff with this onion soup mix. 5 star all the way. Thank you for the post. Happy to know what I’m eating.
Simple ingredients. Great seasoning on chicken in instant pot!!
Amazing recipe! For movie night, add a couple table spoons of this to 2-3 cups of sour cream for an easy onion dip!
I made it as is and it was wonderful. I like it so much that I’m going to make this every time I need that onion soup mix. Because I don’t like eating chemicals. I just went online and bought a big package of organic minced dried onion on Vitacost so that I have plenty of the dried onions on hand.
Worked great!
I tried the first time as written, but the celery seed seemed to over power the dip. I adjusted the amount of celery seed by half this time, perfect! Use some of the boxed variety the other day. Nearly choked on the amount of salt in it and not very “oniony”. This is my go-to recipe forever.
I’m gluten-free, but sometimes want to make recipes which use purchased spice mixes. I am forever grateful to those who have attempted to duplicate these spice mixes so that I may make my own. Thank you for sharing.
Looking forward to using this mix
I’ve been using this recipe for years and my family loves it. We’ve used it with beef and pork roasts.
I used it in my meatloaf recipe. Very good!!
I love this recipe! The celery seed is the secret ingredient that gives it that flavor you can’t place but is noticeable when it’s missing. I can’t do premade mix because of the salt content so this is my go to for anything requiring onion soup mix. It’s great in White Castle slider copycats.
Thank you for this recipe!!
I needed onion soup mix and didn’t have any so decided to try this one. I only had minced onion so 1/4 cup was a bit too much so will half that next time unless I get onion flakes. This was so much better than the bought mixes. It had more flavour and way less salty. Thanks for sharing this one.
Fantastic!
This recipe is Perfect for making low sodium onion dip! This is going to become a staple in our home. Thank You!
This was a perfect recipe to make on the fly! One of my Thanksgiving recipes called for an onion soup packet and I definitely couldn’t find that on our shelves during this crazy season of 2020. I had all of these ingredients in my cabinet and the flavor was excellent. I’m looking forward to making this again to have tablespoons available on hand.
My 4 children love this recipe for our stew night. My wife is Gluten Free and is very careful. The only change I made was to add garlic powder. Did that for my stew recipe. for the bullion, I used “Better Than Bullion” beef as its flavor is superb and it dilutes easily in water. This recipe is well worth it if onion soup mix is a staple in you home.
I now make this in place of french onion soup packets for recipes. This is a great susbitute
