I’ve been making this Hawaiian-inspired recipe for almost 20 years. Everyone I’ve made it for has raved about how tasty and simple it is to make. On top of a rice bed, I serve it.

Ingredients
- 6 ounces kale leaves
- 1 ½ tablespoons olive oil
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 pinch ground black pepper to taste
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper, or to taste
Instructions
- Preheat an air fryer to 360 degrees F (180 degrees C) according to manufacturer’s instructions.
- Stir kale leaves off the stems and chop into small pieces. Place in a large bowl; add olive oil, salt, paprika, garlic powder, pepper, and cayenne. Toss until well coated.
- Add a layer of kale leaves to the air fryer basket. Cook for 3 minutes. Shake the basket and pour kale out onto a cutting board or baking sheet to cool and crisp up. Repeat with remaining kale, working in batches to prevent it from steaming and getting soggy.
- Use another blend of spices or stick to just salt and pepper. The varieties are endless.
- Please adjust cooking temperature and time based on your air fryer. They can vary quite a bit; this is the temperature and time that worked for me.
Reviews
I was really rushed, sped through a couple of change-ups – and it was…delicious.
Cooked about 6 min
A bit salty for me. I would add half the amount of salt and cook it 1 minute longer to make it crispier.
Quick and easy, had to play around with the air fryer temperature. I used less oil and I think it made the difference for me.
