I mixed it up a bit. I omitted the sugar and added half a Serrano pepper. I probably could have used a whole one. Maybe next time. I also did not add sugar. My dad always sprinkled salt on his watermelon, so I added a pinch of kosher salt instead. I only added one cup of water while blending. Before serving, I mixed the puree with sparkling water. So delicious and refreshing!

If you are going to serve this at a summer party, don’t forget the Vodka-spiked watermelon to go with it……you know,  open a bottle of vodka and cut a small hole in watermelon. Put hole over open top of bottle and push it on good and tight.Turn whole thing over and put in fridge overnight. By morning all of the vodka is in the watermelon! Keep away from the kids!!!!!! Really cool for the adults….. 🙂

Very good and I used up some extra watermelon! I put 3 cups chopped watermelon and the 1/2 cup sugar in blender and then decided to go ahead and fill it to top (total 5 cups watermelon). I put 3 cups water (that’s all that would fit) and blended. I then strained it through a sieve to catch any seeds and pulp. I added that mixture to a 2 qt pitcher and filled with water. So I used much less water and it tastes perfect. Any more water would make it taste watered down.

This is delicious and very refreshing! My boys loved it and even preferred it over soda (a small accomplishment against the sugar addiction in our house.
