Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  1. 6 tablespoons olive oil
  2. 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  3. 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  4. Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  5. 4 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
  6. 8 ounces shaved sirloin steak
  7. 1 pound pizza dough, rested at room temperature
  8. 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
  9. 1/2 cup shredded provolone
  10. Pickled cherry or banana peppers, chopped, for garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Heat a 12-inch cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat; add 2 tablespoons of the oil. Add the onions, green peppers and some salt and pepper and cook until the onions are browned and the peppers are tender, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook 1 minute more. Remove to a bowl and set aside.
  3. Return the skillet to medium-high heat; add 2 tablespoons of oil and the steak. Cook until browned on both sides, about 3 minutes. Remove to a bowl and set aside.
  4. Wipe out the skillet and add the remaining 2 tablespoons oil. Place the pizza dough in the skillet and carefully stretch it out until it fills the entire skillet (the skillet will be hot). Add the steak, onion mixture, mozzarella and provolone over the top. Bake until the crust is cooked and the cheese is melted and browned, 15 to 20 minutes. Top with the chopped cherry or banana peppers if using.

I made it but it had way too much dough. The inside didn’t get done. It was also hard to get out of the pan. I did everything exactly as stated. Sorry, I usually love her recipes, but this was not a hit.

I realized my cast iron skillet was 10 inch instead of 12 inch so I went to my sheet pan. This was amazing anyway! I will be doing this again! I did not have to bake as long in a sheet pan.

Flavor is good but dough was burnt outside and still raw inside.

Love this pizza!  So easy and very tasty!!!

This was really good.  I don’t like bell peppers so I substituted sweet cherry peppers inside and fresh on top after cooking.  Crust was thick and good.  I probably wouldn’t make this exact pizza again BUT I have used this crust method several times for other pizza creations.

This was SO easy and the end result was just delicious! Next time, I’m going to add mushrooms.

Thank you Katie! Made this tonight and it turned out great! I added mushrooms to the peppers and onion mixture and put some cheese under the meat. Will make this again!

My husband LOVED this! I made my own dough, and served it with a side of homemade marinara sauce for dipping! Turned out beautifully and was delicious!

So easy to make a cheesesteak with great pizza dough base. Full of flavor and great for a late meal. The skillet crisps the pizza dough just right.
