Ultimate Side Dish

  4.4 – 25 reviews

This casserole is a comforting side dish that is creamy, crispy, and ideal for Thanksgiving! excellent with pork chops and chicken. On rainy days, I occasionally eat a whole bowl of it.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 40 mins
Total Time: 50 mins
Servings: 6
Yield: 1 2-quart casserole

Ingredients

  1. 1 (15.5 ounce) can French-style green beans, drained
  2. 1 (15 ounce) can sliced potatoes, drained
  3. 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of celery soup
  4. 1 ⅛ cups milk
  5. 3 tablespoons French-fried onions, divided
  6. salt and pepper to taste
  7. garlic powder to taste
  8. 1 (8 ounce) package dry bread stuffing mix

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Place green beans and potatoes into a 2-quart casserole dish. Stir in the cream of celery soup and milk. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder; stir in 1 tablespoon of the French fried onions. Sprinkle the remaining onions on top.
  3. Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven. While casserole is baking, prepare stuffing according to the package directions. Spread over the top of the casserole. I like to mash it flat with a spatula so that it covers the entire dish.
  4. Return to the oven for about 10 minutes, or until crunchy. You can also broil for a few minutes for extra crunch.
  5. You can save on calories by using water instead of milk and going a bit easy with the French fried onions.

I tried this because I run out of yummy ways to fix green beans. I found this combination strange, I won’t make it again! My boys said they liked it but nobody wanted the leftovers sooo….

Truly is the ultimate side dish, no need for anything else for holiday sides, especially if your without much help in the kitchen.

Tried and true, I’ve made it so many times with so many variations that I only look at the recipe now to double-check the liquid ratio. My favorite combo is cauliflower and broccoli (roast cauliflower & onions first in the oven under broil while blanching the broccoli and prepping the rest).

I added a whole bag of frozen corn cause my family loves corn. That was the only change I made and I had no left-overs. It was gone. Will definitely make it again.

I made this and my husband loves it. I also made it camping and everyone raved about it. OMG…so easy.

This was a hit at a potluck yesterday! The only thing I changed was I used the cream of chicken/cream of mushroom soup combo instead of cream of celery soup. It was so good and got ate up so fast. When I got home I made it again just for the family.??

I made this for Easter last year and it was a hit!

This was excellent. My one year old loved it and so did the rest of the house. I used cream of muchroom instead of cream of celery but kept everything else the same.

I made this tonight using fresh boiled potatoes. My family liked it and I liked it too. It tasted just like green bean casserole and stuffing mixed together, which, I guess it basically is. But, it was good.

This was different. DH liked it more than I did. The only change I made was to use frozen potatoes instead of canned (really hate the canned) but other than that I made this according to the recipe. I’m sure we’ll have it again to have something different.

I have a family of 5 all pick eaters. This dish made peace at the dinning table. Would not change a thing. Great can’t wait to make it again.

i really enjoy this recipe. i’ve made it a few times using boiled potatoes (either cubed or small slices) and cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soups. i haven’t tried the cream of celery cause my other half isn’t a celery fan in general. it takes more time with using the fresh potatoes but i think it’s worth the effort. if the salt content/flavor of the cream of ___ soups is too much, try using stuffing that doesn’t come pre-seasoned.

This was okay, personally I like the regular green bean casserole better. But it was nice to have a change.

Very easy to make if not a little on the little flavoring side. Still pretty good though!

I Really Liked This Side Dish Exept the green beans and thats not like me to like something like this but this is really good!

This was very good. I used hash brown potatoes instead of the sliced potatoes. I also used a half of can of cream of mushroom and a half of can of cream of celery.
