Sweet Potato Stuffing

The chocolate enthusiast in all of us will enjoy this as a party dessert. Top may be optionally embellished with a swirl of canned whipped topping and chocolate curls. Make careful to include a small amount of each layer in each serving. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  1. 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  2. 1 medium apple – peeled, cored, and diced
  3. ⅓ cup chopped onion
  4. 1 tablespoon white sugar
  5. 1 teaspoon salt
  6. ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  7. 1 (16 ounce) can sweet potatoes, drained
  8. 2 cups soft bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add apple and onion; cover and cook until tender, 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Stir in sugar, salt, and nutmeg; push to one side of the skillet. Add drained sweet potatoes to the empty side of the skillet; mash with a fork. Add bread crumbs and mix until all ingredients are combined. Transfer to a greased casserole dish.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown on top, about 1 hour.
  5. You can use this to stuff a whole chicken or turkey, if not baking in a casserole dish.
