I found this recipe when seeking for something warming to make for a meal with my closest buddy and Gluwein. Due to time constraints, my fiance prepared the meal two days in advance. She then let it simmer on low for about a day and, wow, what a winner. Though we skipped the Gluwein, I’m sure the next time we do, it will be the greatest. Excellent with olive bread that has been roasted in the oven.

Was very tasty & my husband loved even though he’s not fond of fresh green beans!
Flavor is decent, but these got crazy soggy. They need to be paired with some food to temper its’ strong taste.
I don’t really have anything negative to say, just didn’t excite me either. Beans with just garlic, salt, and olive oil is just as good or better.
Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful beans. I plan on using this sauce for a lot of other things! New go to! Thank you for sharing this, you brought new ideas into this kitchen!
I love this recipe and flavor. However, I can’t get the sauce to stick to the green beans very well unless I overcook the beans. Any tips?
This was delicious. Though next time I will skip the steaming and just stir fry longer with same amount of oil.
I wanted to recreate the “Sweet & Spicy Green Beans” from my favorite local Thai restaurant at home and this recipe was the key! I followed the instructions carefully and only made one small adjustment to the sauté time (suggested 3-5 minutes). I sautéed for 15 minutes on low in a covered pan which enhanced the yummy flavors, and improved the texture of the green beans as they shriveled up a bit without getting over cooked- just like they serve at the restaurant!
I make this recipe quite often as it’s easy, quick and incredibly delicious. I love spicy so the recipe is excellent the way it is. They are good warm or cold. It’s only the way I make my string beans.
Not as spicy as I was expecting, but I think I’ll use more chili sauce next time.
Delicious! I added some slivered almonds and spicy pecans for protein and crunch factor
Loved it
These are absolutely delicious!!! I eat them one a week it seems!!! Other things I’ve tried include adding toasted slivered almonds, adding cooked thinly sliced red onion to the mixture, tripling the garlic because….duh.
Followed the recipe exactly (except I had closer to 1 lb.) of string beans and the result was DELICIOUS. Before preparing the green beans, I steamed some frozen mini-dumplings (Trader Joe’s for the win) and set them aside. When the beans were finished cooking in the spicy-sweet sauce I put them in a bowl (covered to keep warm) and tossed the steamed dumplings in the remaining pan sauce. Served the “fried” dumplings on top of the green beans, and YUM. This will be a repeater in our rotation of quick and easy meals.
I didn’t have chili sauce so I substituted half the oil for chili oil and it did the trick.
I don’t measure anything, this turned out great! I added sliced almonds for the last minute of cooking
Delicious!
I found this recipe to be just ok. I was expecting a bolder flavor, they were neither sweet or spicy. I followed the recipe exactly. Very disappointed.
Sweet & Spicy Green Beans by Cookofthehouse. Yum.
Excellent flavor. I incorporated Swiss Rainbow Chard stalks which made for a colorful and tasty dish.
No changes. Yummy as written. Will make again.
It was a little too spicy for me.
