Southern Fried Green Beans

I decided to offer the recipe because people seemed to enjoy these scalloped potatoes with bacon and sour cream. The men went crazy over it when I made it one evening for a cookout!

I won’t make this recipe often but we did like it for giving us a new way to enjoy green beans, my favorite green veggie.

Great easy recipe. I added chopped onions and cooked a couple of minutes before adding the beans.

I’m from Ohio, not the South but this is the only way my mom ever made green beans. I only grow beans in the garden just to make this dish and Green Beans, Ham & Potatoes. Today was the first time I picked them this year so of course I had to make green beans & bacon ?? I do add more bacon than 5 slices and take out most of the grease after frying the bacon. The only other addition I do is add onions after frying the bacon and less sugar but I don’t know how much because I never measure anything.

Very good! I thought I wasn’t going to like it as much using canned green beans instead of fresh, but they were really good. I will make again.

OMG this was sooo good. The only thing I did different was fried up some diced onion, per other reviewers suggestions. This was so simple and easy.. This is definitely a keeper.

So, so good! Used about a pound of fresh green beans. Added red onion, garlic, a potato, brown sugar (instead of white) and a splash of white wine vinegar. Amazing.

The dish turned out great! I added some baby red potatoes right after cooking the bacon, then the green beans …I did just use 1/2 teaspoon of sugar which I feel is enough to our taste.

This was delish! I followed another reviewer’s recommendation, and added onion and a splash of apple cider vinegar. The family loved it.

man this was good!! I didn’t add as much sugar as it called for but it was still very good! I’m southern but had never heard of green beans cooked like that. I will definitely have them again!!

I used precooked bacon crumbles, 1/2 an onion chopped, and a heaping tsp minced garlic sautéed with a pat of butter then added 2 cans of green beans and it was delicious

Only missing the onions. This is the only way I’ve cooked green beans for years and the only way my kids and grandkids will eat them.

This was the best new dish I have done in a while! I did change a few things, though. For starters, I omitted the sugar. Then I drained half of the bacon grease prior to mixing in green beans. I used a fresh ground peppercorn mix rather than regular ground pepper. And lastly, I added 1 tsp of a McCormick-type steak seasoning. Served with pot roast and whole potatoes.

A keeper we will make it a favorite

Made this for about 100 people at our church and they loved it even those who thought I was crazy when they saw me pouring in the sugar. Definitely going into my favorites.

Big hit with the family. My daughter in law who is a great cook honestly thought they were fresh beans. I read the reviews and took the advice to cut back on the sugar and added a splash or two of apple cider vinegar. I let them sit covered for about 1 1/2 hours and rewarmed them when we were all ready to have Thanksgiving dinner. I was asked to share this recipe.

Turned out really well.

The “I-hate-string-beans-except-when-my-sister-cooks-them” hubby gobbled them up last night! Easy to prepare and taste like they were made using fresh string beans! A winner!
John Benton
I am going to try it with fresh beans. Will let you know.

Tasted great! My hubby doesn’t usually eat canned green beans. He loves this recipe! I took another reviews advice and added apple cider vinegar the second time I made this. It made it come together even better!
