Loved It!! Best recipe for fresh green beans. I put some sliced mushrooms in it and it was great!
I cook my bacon in the oven until crispy, drain on paper towels and chop to add. I always have reserved bacon grease in my fridge so I use a small amount of that to make my sauce. Less greasy!!
This was a total hit at home. The only thing I did differently was to use a paper towel to soak up some of the excess bacon grease. I will infidelity be making this again.
Was a hit with two mods: first I cooked the bacon, onion, garlic mixture longer in order to avoid the bacon appearing muddled. This worked well. Second I added maple syrup with about 4 minutes to go. The syrup combined with the remaining water to create a sauce. I made way too much for a group of 10 and every last bit got eaten! Even the 3 and 5 year old ate them and wanted more!
The recipe was great!
Steam the beans first separately and dispose of the water. Add beans to the sauteed bacon, onion, and garlic. Toss. Salt and pepper generously.
Definitely will make this again. I cooked them til nearly done, then put them in a casserole. That meant I was able to entertain rather than cook. I put them in the oven with the Boston Baked Beans, for about 20 minutes, while I cooked the Marinated Pork Loin in a large air fryer. Everything was ready to go at the same time. No small feat!. Everyone loved them. They were a little crisp, which made the freshness that much more apparent.
Perfect way to cook green beans. Outstanding flavor.
Smothered Green Beans by Michele O’Sullivan. Used frozen so less water. Better reheated.
My family loved this. Said I’m the best cook, once again. Thanks for recipe. Didn’t change anything.
This was really good. I changed it up a bit because I already had cooked bacon. I used some saved bacon grease to sauté the onions and garlic, then added beans. At about the 1/2 way point I added the chopped cooked bacon. To serve I added sautéed sliced mushrooms. It was delicious.
I cut the amount of bacon in half
5.26.20 … https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/18329/smothered-green-beans/ … I used frozen beans so kinda covered & reduced the amount of water. The first night wasn’t great, but upon reheat in the oven, very good. My technique needs work to have these good stovetop. It’s me. I know it. SMOTHERED GREEN BEANS by Michele O’Sullivan
I added just a little bit of brown sugar to mine to give it a hint of sweetness and it was delightful. My husband ate it in 2 seconds GREAT recipe!
Made this exactly as it is written. Excellent! Even my extremely picky brother-in-law liked it. He even had seconds!
No it was awesome just the Way it was
Everyone loved this! Nothing leftover.
Great recipe! I made changes though. I prefer veggies crisp. I sautéed the bacon, onion and garlic together. I bought fresh green beens that cook in a bag in the microwave for a short time (no added water). Then I mixed the cooked green beans and salt and pepper into the bacon mixture and voila – a yummy side dish!
A little splash of some red wine vinegar, and it’s perfect.
This was really good! I used the fresh green beans and I did drain some of the bacon grease from the pan as other suggested here. I boiled the beans for just a few minutes in chicken broth and then blanched them before sauteeing. I saved some of the chicken broth and used that in place of the water. It was a top notch side for my pork loin!
As a bacon lover, I never thought I would find myself saying “too much bacon” but here I am, saying there is too much bacon in this recipe. I used about half to 3/4 the amount called for. Wright’s bacon is the best! Also, I find that “until the fat starts to render” is not long enough to cook the bacon. I like to get mine to the almost crisp stage before adding the other stuff. This will create more bacon drippings, so make sure to pour about half of that off before adding the beans. These are delicious!
