Sliwkowka Czyli Nalewka ze Sliwek (Polish Purple Plum Liqueur)

Our neighborhood was known for my grandmother’s vegan fried green tomatoes. Despite the recipe’s simplicity, the end product is wonderful!

Ingredients

  1. 2 pounds plums, pitted and sliced
  2. 2 cups pure rectified alcohol (190 proof)
  3. 2 tablespoons pure rectified alcohol (190 proof)
  4. 2 cups vodka
  5. 2 tablespoons vodka
  6. 1 ½ cups white sugar

Instructions

  1. Place plums in a glass carboy used for brewing. Pour in 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons rectified alcohol and 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons vodka. Seal and store in a cool, dark place for 5 weeks.
  2. Stir sugar into the carboy. Seal and store in a cool, dark place for 4 weeks.
  3. Strain liqueur through a sieve lined with muslin cloth. Pour liqueur into bottles, seal, and store in a cool, dark place for at least 3 months before using.

  5. Rectified alcohol is a very high-strength spirit that’s used for making homemade liqueurs. You can buy it online or in specialist brewing shops.
