Quick Egg Roll Dipping Sauce

The flavor of the sauce that comes in the box is superior to this egg roll sauce. It’s a simple dipping sauce that only needs a few ingredients from Asia.

Ingredients

  1. 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  2. 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  3. 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  4. ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  5. ½ teaspoon onion powder
  6. ⅛ teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients.

  3. Whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic powder, onion powder, and sesame oil in a bowl until smooth. Serve in small dipping dishes.

  6. Teriyaki: Add 2 tablespoons brown sugar to the sauce; cook over low heat until sugar is dissolved.
  7. Thicker glaze: Whisk 1 tablespoon cornstarch into the sauce; bring to a boil and cook for 1 minute.

This is THE sauce for egg rolls and fried wontons! I made it according to the measurements on the recipe, however, I added about a tablespoon of oyster sauce and a little bit of sugar.. Either way, the BEST sauce I’ve tried for DIY sauce! Thanks so much for the recipe! 🙂

4.25.22 I agree with many other reviewers that this is not a good sauce for egg rolls or spring rolls. I totally could see this with dumplings or pot stickers, but a traditional sweet chili sauce or hot mustard sauce continues to be my preference for egg rolls.

This was disgusting. It was an assault to my nose, tongue and face. I couldn’t eat it. It tastes like straight up vinegar. I followed the instructions exactly. I am legit so angry because I made eggrolls and was excited to eat them with this sauce.

I should have read the reviews before I tried this. The proportion of vinegar is way off in this as written. I’d suggest mixing the other ingredients and then adding a bit of vinegar at a time otherwise the vinegar is just way to overwhelming

I have to agree with other posters on this one: too vinegary. Also, if you’re a fan of the usual plum sauce, this will be quite different from what you are expecting. I would add sugar and cut the vinegar for starters. Maybe play around with fresh garlic. But at that point, you might as well look for another recipe.

Very good sauce. I love vinegar, but my husband doesn’t so I sweetened it up by adding two tablespoons of brown sugar and he like it much better. We bought sushi and used it for dipping as well as egg rolls. Yum!!

Very good… I didn’t have the onion but it still tasted good! Also for people complaining about the vinegar, Mirin (sweet cooking wine) is a great substitute

I love vinegar so I loved this sauce. No one else used it in my family. They used the bottled sweet & sour instead. I’ll make this again for myself because I LOVE vinegar on almost everything! I love sesame oil too!

This wasn’t the best sauce it had way too much soy sauce and the porportions were off. I didn’t have any ginger on hand, which may have made a difference. Either way it didn’t set right with the egg rolls I had.
