Pork Chop and Potato Casserole

  4.3 – 399 reviews  • Potato Casserole

For those occasions when you want a fuss-free dinner, slow cookers are fantastic. Everything can basically be thrown in it, and you can leave it all day long to prepare a delicious, healthful meal for supper. This stew took 8 hours to cook in the slow cooker on low heat, but if you need it sooner, just turn the heat to medium, and it will be done in about 4 hours.

Prep Time: 20 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr
Total Time: 1 hr 20 mins
Servings: 5

Ingredients

  1. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  2. 6 boneless pork chops
  3. 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  4. 1 cup milk
  5. 4 potatoes, thinly sliced
  6. ½ cup chopped onion
  7. 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place pork chops in the oil, and sear.
  3. Combine condensed soup and milk in a medium bowl. Arrange potatoes and onions in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Place browned pork chops over potatoes and onions, then pour the soup mixture over everything in the dish.
  4. Bake 30 minutes in the preheated oven. Top with cheese, and bake for 30 more minutes.

I added my spice to chops and seared, I also fried onions and garlic. This gives it in my mind a better flavour. I also used cream of mushroom with shiitake mushrooms for unique flavour

The recipe is wonderful as a base but wanted more flavor, and to use some extra stuff we had in the refrigerator. No spices were mentioned at all in this recipe so that’s we gave it only 3 stars. We had a sweet potato, parsley and some garlic left over from a previous meal so we added those to the mix. And we like our food with a little heat so… WOW!!! We also didn’t use as much milk and we cooked 30 minutes covered and then added the cheese while the dish was cooking uncovered for the remaining 30 minutes. Oh, and we put the center cut pork chops on the bottom of the pan while cooking. I think that kept them super moist while cooking. Hope this enhances someones dinner meal. We use what we have to make each meal an experience!!!

Very good. I used golden mushroom soup and sautéed the onions in the pan after searing meat. I baked this at 350° for over an hour because I needed to have that much time and I would do that again. Forgot to put the cheese on but not sure it needed it.

I used Cream of Chicken soup because my family dosn’t like mushrooms. Lots of compliments about the flavor and about t tenderness of the chops. I enjoyed making this also. Cleanup was a breeze.

I made this today. I used 6 bone in pork chops. Cooking the chops 1hr at 400* was way too long and they were overcooked and dry. Next time I would brush some of the cream of mushroom/milk sauce on the chops and then add the chops the last half hour when you add the shredded cheese. I would put some of the shredded cheese on top of potatoes then put pork chops on top of potato mixture, then more shredded cheese on top of chops. I did try someone’s comments about frying the sliced onions with garlic which added a nice taste to casserole. I also pre-seasoned pork and potatoes. Casserole tasted good, just chops too done… Definitely needed applesauce on the side.

Delishous!

I’ve made this recipe for years. I use golden mushroom soup when I have it on hand. Great flavor and presentation!

Fantastic meal! Easy, delicious-made it just as the recipe said. Served with a side of broccoli. It’s a keeper

I took tips from the comments and put the chops on the bottom and then layered potatoes and added broccoli and some garlic and worcestershire. I also added cheese in bowl while mixing sauce. Can never have too much cheese! Cooked it 1/2 hr with foil on and 1/2 with foil off. Delicious.

This really is a very nice simple recipe. I’ve made it for years while kids were growing up. It is better with some fresh mushrooms, and garlic. And yes kids liked it all. Try sneaking in some broccoli for added nutrition.

It was good, but the pork chops did not turn out as juicy as I hoped. It was also a bit too much work to be worth the flavor outcome. However, if you love casseroles and especially ones with cream of mushroom/chicken/whatever soup, you should give it a try.

I’ve made a casserole similar to this numerous times. Of course, most of us have our own little tweaks that we seem to do with most recipes. Instead of slicing the potatoes, I quartered them like I do for a pot roast. My family loves the gravy, so I use 2 cans of soup and 2 cups of milk so there will be plenty of the gravy. I’ve sometimes also add green beans in with the casserole to make it a complete meal. Note: I also use this basic recipe substituting the pork chops with round steak.

Love this recipe! My husband like it too which is a complement! I didn’t change anything.

I followed the recipe to a T and it came out watery. The milk probably wasn’t necessary. It was very soupy. Also the person that submitted the recipe never specified whether to cover it or not. I did cover mine the first 30 minutes and after adding the cheese I removed when baking another 30 min. Honestly the people in the comments helped more than the person submitting the recipe.

Really good. Tender enough, and juicy…Made it exactly as per recipe stated.

Very simple to put together and delicious too. I combined & heated the milk and mushroom soup in the pan drippings before pouring it over the dish for a richer flavor.
Christopher Martinez
I had bone-in center cut chops and used those instead. Plus, I used loaded baked potato soup since I didn’t have cream of mushroom. My wife still loved it and asked me to make it again.

Easy Tasty Will make again.

Love this recipe. I added fresh mushrooms and loved it even better. Very rich and makes great leftovers.

Horrible ! I read the directions 4 times, when it said to cook the pork chops for an hour in a 400 degree oven. Went with it…. and after 45 minutes and the cheese burnt, I took them out and plated. Absolutely NO flavor and the pork chops as predicted were so dry we went through a gallon of apple sauce to choke them down.
