With cornbread or as a side dish to your preferred cuisine, you can serve this Instant Pot cabbage recipe. The majority of nutrients are preserved when cooking cabbage under pressure, and the dish comes out sweet yet flavorful. This dish is quick, tasty, and simple!

Total Time: 35 mins
Servings: 8

  2. ¼ cup butter
  3. 1 head cabbage, cored and chopped into 1 1/2-inch pieces
  4. 2 cups chicken broth
  5. salt and ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook and stir bacon in an open 8-quart pressure cooker over medium heat until tender, 4 to 5 minutes. Do not crisp bacon unless you prefer it that way. Add butter and stir until melted.

  5. Secure the lid, place the regulator on top (depending on the type of pressure cooker you have), and turn heat to high. When the regulator begins to rock or the cooker reaches full pressure, lower temperature until the regulator is gently rocking (15 pounds per square inch). Cook for 3 minutes.
  6. Immediately remove the cooker from heat. Release pressure carefully using the quick-release method according to manufacturer’s instructions. Unlock and remove the lid. Transfer cabbage to a serving plate; serve hot.
  7. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios
  8. You can add some diced cooked ham to the pot before cooking for a complete meal.

I gave the original recipe 4 stars because it’s super easy and tasty. With a few additions, it is even better. I used 3 strips of bacon (left over from another recipe) and then tossed in a ring of kielbasa to brown, along with a large sliced onion. As per others, I added a few shakes of Worcestershire sauce and also a few shakes of herbs de Provence. I also only used one cup of broth and that seemed a bit much at the end so I let it simmer with the lid off for about half an hour to reduce. Flavor was fantastic!

Needs a few spices to ramp up the flavor. One of my favorites for winter time.

I added a handful of frozen onions and peppers and cooked my bacon till almost crisp. Then added sausage, and a can of chicken stock and pressure cooked in a ninja xl for 10 minutes..turned out great…I fried out a can of corned beef hash separately to put on top. One pot meal with cornbread.

I did not have bacon so instead added ham. Usually, I make cabbage and the leftovers go into the fridge until they are thrown out. Leftovers did not go to waste and the family is asking me to make it again.

Additionally Added 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke, 1 tsp kitchen bouquet, and tsp red pepper flakes. We like it with a little spice

Fantastic! My kids love it too!

Love this recipe. So simple to make, but I made this on the stove instead of the insta pot. Cook the bacon in my large pan. After it’s done the way you like it add everything else. I like my cabbage crispier so I didn’t cook it as long. You can reduce the amount of butter to make the dish a little healthier. I will be making this quite a bit, great for my healthy lifestyle that I try to maintain.

I made this in my instant pot and it was delicious. I used smoked turkey sausage instead of bacon and did what another reader did— browned the pieces in butter, Worcestershire sauce and garlic. I used only 1 can of broth. My husband really liked it too and this meal was low carb for his diabetes. We both thought it was very good.

The time is off. I cooked my cabbage for 5 minutes with 1 cup of broth and my cabbage was soup, can’t imagine what 6 min will do. I looked at other recipes and they say 6 minutes also. Can’t see how this is correct. I had a medium sized cabbage. Very disappointing. Next time maybe 2 to 3 minutes is all I need and my cabbage will have a slight crunch. Had to throw the whole mess away.

Wonderful!

Added sausage to the mix. The only problem I had was, there was a lot of liquid in the pot after cooking. So I drained it off and it was wonderful. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

Quick and easy recipe to make for cabbage. Pretty tasty, but would have been to bland for our liking as written. Made this in the Instant Pot and next time would reduce the amount of broth to 1 or 1.5 cups. I would also cook the bacon in the IP and remove it from the pot to add back in once the cabbage is done. I couldn’t resist adding more seasoning and sprinkled in some garlic and onion powder. Next time, I would saute some onion and garlic in the bacon grease before adding the cabbage. Overall, this is a good recipe for cabbage that is easy to tweak to your taste preference. Thanks for the recipe!

I made it exactly to recipe. Absolutely love the flavor! I think I will back off the broth a little next time and I need to cut the time back just a tad, I over cooked trying to convert the instruction to work on my instant pot. Nice part, my hubby said it’s the best I’ve ever made and both kids ate it and liked it!! That’s a major win!

PERFECT!!! This was the first time I’ve ever done a good cabbage – using this recipe!! My family really enjoyed it, nothing but the sound of forks scraping the plates!

Made this as instructed and it turned out quite good. Hubby loved it. I prefer the fried cabbage in a pan but this worked out. This is a great way to make a yummy cabbage recipe with little tending as the pressure cooker does most of the work.

This by far the best cabbage I’ve ever tasted,

Used only one cup of stock. Turned out GREAT!!!

No changes yes I’ll make it again

My family loved this dish with Oktoberfest Sausage. Prepared exactly as recipes states with the exception of a few dashes of onion powder for added flavour. This will be a regular side dish from now on

I loved it. I had it as a meal twice as leftovers. I will definitely make it again..
