This is a family recipe that my aunt and uncle in California taught me how to make. Everyone like it, but I’m not sure whose Grandma we’re referring to. This is a Sunday tradition at our house because we host football Sundays. Some folks hinge their attendance decisions on whether or not I’m making my pizza.

Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed
- 1 tablespoon olive oil, or more if needed
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice, or more if needed
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for topping
Instructions
- Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat and lightly oil the grate.
- Place asparagus in a large, shallow bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice, going from bottom to top of stalks. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over asparagus; lightly toss to coat each spear.
- Use tongs to transfer coated asparagus to the preheated grill. Grill to desired tenderness, 3 to 7 minutes.
- Remove asparagus from the grill and place onto a serving plate. Sprinkle with additional Parmesan.
- Peel the bottom of the asparagus stems to remove tartness and allow more seasonings to penetrate.

Very good!
Really easy and really good. This is a simple recipe but the pay off is fantastic. thank you for a great weeknight grilling recipe!
My husband and I eat this all the time. We love it. Easy/fast to make and very delicious.
Got a new indoor grill, and decided to try this recipe on it. It is the best way that I have had asparagus, ever! Tenderized them just right, too, by peeling the outer part of the hard ends. This is the only way that I want to make it, now.
Huge hit with the family. I marinated the asparagus in the lemon juice and olive oil before grilling. Use freshly grated Parmesan.
Very quick and simple, yet delicious! I cannot wait to make this again. I love Parmesan cheese, so I grated extra and added it to the top a couple minutes before it was done. Amazing!!!
Great side for anything
Quick and easy side dish. No need to measure ingredients. Just drizzle oil, squirt lemon, season with salt and pepper, grate cheese, toss and grill. It is that easy.
Will definitely make this again!
I made this for our weekly barbque and it was delicious! Made it exactly how its stated but I did marinate it about 3 hours. Am making it again this Saturday, its just that good!!! Now my favorite way to make this vegetable.
Made it according to the recipe. Did top it with a balsamic reduction glaze. My guests really loved it !
Great side dish. I will serve again.
Perfectly easy recipe that turns out awesome. I also did our green beans the same way and turned our awesome
I prepared this recipe for the first time this weekend…for a reception serving a light dinner (for 40-50 guests with sophisticated pallets) following a concert. It was also the first time I had used the wonderfully helpful servings converter you provide. I followed the suggestion of a reviewer to marinate the asparagus before roasting. For almost 10# of asparagus, I divided the asparagus into four batches for marinating (an hour) and roasting (about 12 min.) Having roasted asparagus and other veggies previously in my oven, I had an idea about the time needed for achieving a crisp/tender outcome. I salted generously, added generous amounts of garlic to the marinade and added the shredded parmesan after roasting. Along with the last batch of aspragus I roasted a thinly sliced lemon which I added on top on of the serving platter. The dish was a hit…not a single stalk of asparagus was left to bring home! Thank you, Allrecipes, for helping me look good!!-
I had never made grilled asparagus. I made this recipe exactly as written. Grilling asparagus gives it a different taste. We enjoyed it very much, but I felt that something was missing. Next time I will put some garlic on it being careful not to burn it and making it bitter. Thanks for the recipe.
DE-LIC-I-OUS! So simple and so tasty. I used bottled lemon juice, but look forward to using fresh lemon juice next time. I’m already planning next week’s menu around having this as a side at LEAST once. THANKS, for the recipe!
Good stuff not boring plain asparagus but just enough to allow the fresh to shine.
This is an excellent way to cook asparagus on the grill. Fresh green and yellow beans also are very tasty with thhis recipe.
This is a really good asparagus recipe, and it didn’t take too long to make, either. It is very tangy and delicious. I think we would definitely make this again! Thanks for the recipe!
I make asparagus on the grill often but I’ve never cooked it directly on the grate. This was fun to make! After coating them with the olive oil and lemon juice I seasoned them with fresh cracked pepper and smoked sea salt. I turned them as they cooked and I liked the appealing charred look they took on, while still maintaining their crisp/tender texture. I don’t care for Parmesan on asparagus myself, so I didn’t taste this – but judging by Mrs. Spunky’s dinner plate this must have been pretty good.
This recipe is similar to how I always make my roasted asparagus. I always wait to add the parmesan cheese at the end when they are done along with some more lemon juice drizzled over! Also while roasting or grilling, add in some chopped garlic, yumm.
