Most youngsters are genuinely astonished that these fried Brussels sprouts taste better than they appear, and they are simple to make. similar to fried cabbage? Then this recipe will also be a treat for you. To make my kids happy and to lessen the taste, I add around 2 teaspoons of sugar. However, without the sugar, it is still delectable. When I omit the sugar, I don’t tell them, and they remain silent.

Ingredients

  1. 6 slices bacon, cut into bite-size pieces
  2. ½ onion, diced
  3. 1 (12 ounce) package fresh Brussels sprouts, trimmed and sliced
  4. 2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste (Optional)
  5. salt and ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place bacon pieces in a large skillet and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain on paper towels, leaving grease in the skillet.
  2. Cook onion in the bacon grease in the skillet until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add Brussels sprouts and toss to coat in the bacon grease. Cook and stir until browned and tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in sugar, salt, and black pepper; sprinkle in bacon pieces.

Very easy for an old man (88). About enough for 4 people. Can they be stored in the fridge or freezer, please. I also do half a dozen in the microwave for three minutes. Scrumptious either way.

What is easier than this side dish? I’ve made it with a splash of a sweet white wine and with brown sugar but my favorite is to drizzle it with a good balsamic vinegar. When it reduces it becomes glaze-like and gives it such a beautiful tart sweetness.

Great recipe! I caramelized the onions in a little EVOO under low heat, then stirred in brown sugar (subbed for white sugar), and 1/8 tsp each of ginger, nutmeg, and paprika, then added the cut-up bacon and continued cooking. Meanwhile, I prepped the Brussels sprouts and cut them in half and nuked them for 2 minutes (they were LARGE and I didn’t want them to be undercooked). Then added the Brussels sprouts to the pan, added pepper (omitted the salt due to dietary restrictions). Last touch—added a pat of butter, covered the pan for 2 more minutes, and that’s it. The family loved it!!

I made this as directed and it was delicious. I was looking for a recipe that didn’t use the oven but wanted brussel sprouts for dinner. I added the sugar because I was curious how it would taste and it was a really good addition. It carmelized on the bottom of the pan and made me want to lick out the frying pan. The only thing I would note was that it took a bit longer ( maybe 29 minutes) to get cooked than directed. Thanks for an easy recipe.

This was absolutely delicious! I partially screamed the Brussels spouts before frying them in the bacon grease, and used honey instead of sugar. No salt needed because of the bacon’s saltiness…super easy and sooo good.
