Fava Beans in Tahini Sauce

Ingredients

  1. 1 tablespoon olive oil
  2. 1 medium onion, chopped
  3. 1 (15 ounce) can fava beans, drained
  4. 1 lemon, juiced
  5. ⅓ cup tahini
  6. 5 cloves garlic, crushed
  7. salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in small to medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook onion in oil until softened.
  2. Stir in the beans and lemon juice. Next, stir in the tahini until mixture is thick. Then, add the garlic, and cook for a few minutes more. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

I kept pretty much to recipe except I used lime as that is what I had, and added some coriander, cumin and smoked paprika but not as much of any as I normally use making chickpea (garbanzo) hummus. I cooked my dried beans in Instant Pot and they cooked very fast and became almost mush. I used a potato masher to break up the beans a bit more. Very easy, very nice, and a nice change from my usual hummus recipes. I will be sharing this with my Turkish Landlady. I think she will like it.

Very good recipe. I used a pestle after it was done cooking and smashed the beans up a bit not too much though and added a bit of Olive oil on top of each serving.

I’ve made this dish you can mash the beans with a fork or use an electric beater you can use additional ingredients such as tomatoes I used tomato sauce cause I didn’t have fresh tomatoes and cumin you can serve with pita and yogurt

Great recipe but made a few changes. I substituted garbanzos and a lime because it’s what I had available. I blended about half the bean mixture to give it a creamier texture like the picture. I thought it tasted a little bland so added a tsp of paprika and 2 tbs of chili powder. It was great loaded into a flour tortilla to serve as a wrap. Next time I think I would serve this with tomato and cucumber slices along with some feta crumbles for a complete meal. Also might add a pinch of cayenne for a kick.

great, simple weeknight quickie. I added cumin and coriander. Also, I was out of lemon juice so I used white wine vinegar, tasted great!

I used a substitute for fava beans, lima beans. Basically, this is a hummus recipe, and I love hummus! This is very tasty!

This is great – I didn’t have a lemon and made it with lime juice instead, but it was still good. Just wish I’d had some parsley on hand.
